This apartment is part of a typical Sicilian 'Palazzo' and has a private access to the sea. From the terrace you can admire a sweeping view over the bay of the small fishing village called Pozzillo and the sea. It is located on the ‘Lemon Riviera', the coast between Catania and Taormina, so-called due to the infinite number of lemon groves found at the foot of the volcano Etna. In summer Pozzillo is a seaside destination for the islanders who enjoy diving off the wooden platforms. When you plunge into the sea in front of the house, it feels as though you are diving straight into your own private salt-water pool with shores of lava rock. The property itself consists of one bedroom with a twin sofa bed, a modern bathroom with shower, a living room with a TV and an ergonomic double sofa bed and dining table, and a kitchen with oven. The terrace is ideal for outdoor eating, and aperitifs as you watch the sun setting over the small port with its vividly painted boats and the sea below.

Food. At a few km of the house, in a town called Santa Tecla (address: via Canale Torto 34), is the renowned fish restaurant “Da Lorenzo”. A meal that consists of wine, water, antipasto (first course) and pasta costs around 20 euros. Including a second course, it would cost around 30 euros. Boat/fishing excursions. The owner of the house rents a small fishing boat with motor and addles (about 30 euro per day or 120 euro per week, only in May, June and July). Lorenzo, the owner of fish restaurant “Da Lorenzo” (address: via Canale Torto 34, Santa Tecla) organizes boat trips with local fisherman or with a speedboat along the beautiful coastline between Catania and Taormina. The meeting point for a trip with local fisherman is at the restaurant “Da Lorenzo”, at 20:00 o’clock. The excursion lasts for a couple of hours. The price per couple is 80,- euro.

The area

Pozzillo is also an excellent base from which to explore eastern Sicily. The quaint fishing village lies halfway between Catania and Taormina and just five kilometres from Acireale (a pretty little city, built on a plateau of lava, that is known for its Baroque churches). Giardini Naxos, a seaside resort with beautiful sandy beaches, is just 25 kilometres from Pozzillo. Beside it we find Taormina ‘the pearl of the Mediterranean’ and the most exclusive seaside resort in Sicily. Its ancient Greek theatre is world famous for its extraordinary panoramic views. Santa Maria la Scala and Aci Trezza are pleasant seaside villages near Pozzillo. Travelling south, one hour’s drive away lies Syracuse. - Etna - Acireale - Santa Maria La Scala - Taormina - Giardini Naxos - Catania - ‘Gole dell’Alcantara’ Nature Reserve - - Etnean towns Trecastagni, Zafferana Etnea, Piedimonte Etneo and Randazzo.

'Besonders zu erwähnen ist die freundliche Begrüßung durch Herrn Sorbello und die reibungslose Abwicklung der Formalitäten. Die Lage der Wohnung und der Terrasse ist wirklich spektakulär. Der kleine Laden nebenan ist sehr praktisch und die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Wir haben entdeckt, dass es in Stazzo mehrere Lokale gibt, die man auch zu Fuß erreichen kann. Die Wohnung ist sehr gut ausgestattet, und ich kann sie bedenkenlos weiterempfehlen.' R. Otto
