Tweed Rig, was built high with large picture windows and a long South-facing balcony to take advantage of the view across the Tweed valley to Melrose, the Abbey and the Eildon Hills beyond. There's an old iron suspension bridge across the Tweed, (before the 1800s people used to cross the river on stilts!) so you can walk to Melrose where there are some fine shops, pubs, hotels, an excellent bistro, Marmions, and a small theatre. Even Gattonside itself has two restaurants, so no driving needed after dinner. Melrose is in the middle of the Scottish Borders - a great base for castles, abbeys, country houses, golf courses, wilderness areas, fishing, walking, cycling - and Edinburgh is only about an hour's drive. Stylish, contemporary and light with a great sense of space, Tweed Rig is available for self-catering rental with accommodation for 10 people (or 14 with two extra beds and the double sofa bed in the games room). More beds available on request.

Melrose is situated in the heart of the Scottish Borders and is an excellent base for exploring all the visitor attractions. Tweed Rig is a convenient location for many outdoor activities, such as golfing, mountain biking, hill walking, fishing etc. There are dozens of activities nearby, such as water sports, mountain biking, hill walking, fishing and many more. Edinburgh is a pleasant one hour drive from Melrose making Tweed Rig suitable for city events and attractions. There are two fantastic restaurants in the village and a walk across the River Tweed by a footbridge, takes you into Melrose which has a superb selection of bistros/restaurants/cafes etc. Excellent mountain biking facility at Glentress. 21 Golf Courses in the area.

Beautiful house

We were a very well behaved hen party of 19 ladies - the house had plenty of space for all and extra beds were provided to accomodate us. The house is lovely and spacious - the photos on the site cannot portray how roomy it is. The living space is great for a bit of a do and we had a fantastic time. The balcony was really useful for cooling down from the dancing! A wonderful weekend - I'm going back soon with the family to enjoy the property again. Melrose is near enough to stroll to and a lovely wee place.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

We stayed in Feb this year, there were 4 adults & 2 kids & the house was perfect.
A real home from home.
It had been snowing & was very picturesque. But that did mean we were unable to take full advantage of the balcony which I would imagine must be great in the summer months.
The house was immaculate throughout & is very spacious, with lots of different areas to get away from the crowd if required.

The town of Melrose was lovely to stroll through with some really good eateries.
Highly recommended.
Recommended for:  Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children
