Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Harewood House (with its various open air events), Brimham Rocks, Ripley Castle and the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey.
Agricultural shows abound during the summer in the surrounding villages but the highlight of the year is the Nidderdale show on the adjacent Pateley Bridge show ground which also hosts various more modest events throughout the year including classic car rallies.
Harrogate is only twenty minutes away with its well known Turkish Baths, antique shops, flower shows, the International Conference Centre, and not forgetting Bettys Tea Rooms. The Stray with its crocus in spring is a sight to behold.
It also provides an great touring base for exploring further afield; York is only an hour away with its roman walls and attractions including the JORVIK viking centre, York Minster and the National Railway Museum and also the cosmopolitan city of Leeds.
