Pleasant week in February

While on a trip to Spain in Feb 2009, my friend and I spent an enjoyable week at the Hacienda del Alamo..This was my second visit to the delightful house at this location, only a couple of kilometres from the town of Fuente Alamo, where there is an excellent supermarket called Mercadona, selling the most exquisite selection of fresh fish. The house is spotlessly clean, well furnished and equipped, and the owners have obviously made a great effort to create a pleasant environment, with lovely garden planting, and, of course, free access to the swimming pool overlooked from the back of the property. We had a slight difficulty operating the dish washer and washing machine, but soon found the solution in the manuals provided. We think some egg-cups would be a good addition to the supply of china, but we improvised successfully! The three en-suite facilities to match the three bedrooms would be particularly welcome for a larger party than ours. In February the evenings can be chilly but the air-conditioning system, working in reverse, gave us the necessary warmth. One of the very good features was the ability to communicate with the local bi-lingual agent, who not only knows the property since it was built, but can advise on a multitude of issues concerning local attractions and services. We were particularly taken with Cartagena, the old Roman port, only 30 minutes' drive away. Further afield was Aquilas further south on the coast and Murcia, the capital city of the province, with 385,000 inhabitants. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would heartily recommend this property for anyone wanting to explore the hinterland and coastline of Murcia.
