Chalet Open Skies is a unique house on three levels with private garden and panoramic balcony. It is an ecologically designed and purpose-built family house in the charming Ruwer wine valley overlooking vineyards and lush forests. The house sleeps 7, is light and airy with a contemporary feel. If you're here to relax, re-unite with friends or family, cycling or hiking you couldn't be better situated as you can just do so by stepping out the door. If you enjoy wine you have come to the right place. Our guests will enjoy plenty of opportunities to taste the superb Riesling wine from the area. A 'buy local' shopping guide is available. At the heart of the house is the spacious custom-designed kitchen featuring the very latest in energy saving technology. The neighbouring dining room leads out onto the spacious balcony with stunning views over the landscape beyond. The house if fully equipped (inc bedding and towels). Three bicycles and detailed maps can be hired for free.

Cycling and hiking starts at your doorstep and you will find endless pleasure in peddling or walking on dedicated car-free tracks along the picturesque meanders of the river Ruwer and Moselle. Chill out with a glass of Riesling wine and a home made meal in traditional 'Strausswirtschaften' (wine estates serving their own produce in a family atmosphere). A beautiful open air swimming pool is located nearby (4 miles) and is suitable for all ages. You can spend a whole day for very little money. Don't miss out visiting Germany's oldest city Trier (8 miles away). Trier is a 2000 year old Roman city - home to six Roman emperors and has many ruins including the impressive Porta Nigra (the black Gate), a four-story structure that was once part of the city's walls. There's a very good bus connection from the village centre every 20 minutes. Diversity probably describes this fascinating area best. Whatever you fancy doing you will find it can be done.

Notes: In 2000, the house war purpose built for our family and is therefore family friendly throughout. It's a steep drive up to the house and unfortunately impossible to access with wheelchairs.

Infrastructure : The wine village Waldrach benefits from a very good infrastructure. A medium sized supermarket sells fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh bakery products and nice meat along with almost everything else. There's a choice of two other bakeries, one of which will be opened even on Sunday mornings to provide you with freshly baked rolls and croissants. Pick up a bottle of fresh grape juice or wine from one of the many vintners on your walk or cycle back to the house through the vineyards. A few restaurants, a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy and bus stop for a short ride to Trier are equally located in the village valley. We have excellent relations with the local vintners and are happy for you to contact them for wine tastings. If you are interested in the art of winemaking why not come here during the wine picking season and participate harvesting grapes that are freshly pressed at the premises for the making of delicious Riesling and Pinot Blanc wines?

Four of us spent a week in this fantastic home. It was very clean, comfortable, welcoming and homely and was extremely well equipped in every way. The kitchen, bathrooms and utility area had everything you could need and there were many other thoughtful little extras that made our stay even more comfortable; from candles and lighters to the complimentary bottles of wine waiting for us on arrival! Organising the rental was also a pleasure as the owner was very patient in taking the time to answer all of our many questions! Greatly appreciated - thank you! The description on this website is very accurate and the rental really does come with all of those helpful extras! A benefit of being able to stay in a home rather than just a rental property. The garden furniture and BBQ were great in the hot weather and the use of the garage was exactly what we needed, as was the free use of the wireless broadand. Such a lovely, well maintained home which we thouroughly enjoyed staying in for the week. The surrounding area is stunning and it was lovely to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine and watch the amazing sunsets. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return again one day.

We spent three weeks at this lovely home. In many years of holidaying in Europe, this is one of the best houses we have ever rented. It was spotlessly clean, very well furnished, had a beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, and fantastic views. We found seven bottles of local wine waiting for us, and the owner, Isabelle, could not have been more helpful. There were local maps and guides in the house, and even bikes which we could use if we wanted, and for cyclists, this is a wonderful area with a cycling route from the village. Isabelle's childrens' toys had been left out so that any children visiting the house could use them. We wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone who wants to visit this lovely region of Germany. We hope to return.
