A private writer's retreat, this cozy two-bedroom just a short walk to the beach with a lush yard complete with a hammock between swaying palms. Beautifully decorated with a recently updated kitchen, this unique island home makes a great escape. Twin Palms Cottage is the smaller cousin attached to our larger home, Twin Palms, also listed on this site. However, both are thoroughly private and offer their own special character and charm. We love the intimate feel of the Cottage; all you can see from the many windows is the lush outside landscaping. It makes you feel like you're in a private tropical oasis. Like Twin Palms, this is just a short walk to the beach (about 300 meters). We recently remodelled this 900-square foot unit and upgraded the kitchen and living areas to create a comfortable, open space. Everything is to a high standard - quality cookware, brand new beds, TV and quality linens and wireless internet. There's a wonderful, private backyard to spend cool evenings.

Notes to the rental rates

• Notes to the rental rates: Minimum rental: two weeks. Monthly rates are USD $1,770 to $3,250 depending on month, please inquire. Stays shorter than a fortnight considered in summer or autumn. Rates are subject to change without notice. A security deposit and $ 80 cleaning charge will be required for each stay. Rates are all inclusive. We have a UK-based bank account for GBP transfers/cheques. We also accept wire transfers, travelers cheques and Paypal for deposits. Add 2% for Paypal deposits. Discount on stays of longer than two months.
  
• The house is on the ground floor, and is accommodating for older individuals or those with limited movements. The house is set up for children, with toys, small chairs, kid's DVDs/books, crib, stroller and high chair. Due to the size and sleeping facilities available, we can accommodate only a maximum of two children in the cottage. The main house can accommodate a larger family, please contact Irene regarding availability.

Warm Gulf of Mexico hideaway

The island itself is known as a haven for sea turtles. There are numerous small restaurants, bars and cafes on the island, and rental agencies for bikes, children's needs and kayaks. It has seven miles of white sandy beaches, including a large public beach with a small cafe featuring live music and monitored by professional lifeguards. Scuba diving, para sailing, windsurfing, sea kayaking and deep-sea fishing are popular activities. We have a dock, so you can rent a boat, bring your own or use it to launch kayaks. The island also has three historic docks for fishing at which poles are available for reasonable rental. Kids and adults will enjoy Mote Marine Laboratory (a 20 minute drive), a working facility that focuses on the study of sharks, manatees and dolphins.

Close to Disney/Orlando - but not too close!

Orlando and major theme parks are about 2 hours drive away. We have information on all the parks available at the house. Busch Gardens is a one hour drive away. We supply information packets with lots of detail on restaurants, things to do, sights to see and tips for Disney/theme parks in the house.

Good shopping, culture & restaurants

The island has several antique stores (from which we bought many of our furnishings...). There's an upscale shopping area, St. Armand's Key, on an adjacent island. The area is known for the arts, with the impressive Ringling Museum and Sarasota Opera Company on the mainland as well as several theatres. All kinds of dining, from great ribs to fine cuisine, are available. See our site for a long, detailed list of restaurant suggestions on the island.

Golf Information:

On the mainland, there are more than 20 golf courses within an hour's drive! The island also has three historic docks for fishing at which poles are available for reasonable rental.
