MY WEBSITE:
SUMMER ACTIVITIES.
Unlike some other areas of France Vendays-Montalivet is a popular touristic area where the forest , dunes and beaches are accessible to all with cycle paths and footpaths. In Winter the population is approx. 2000 swelling to over 45,000
in summer and as a result visitors are treated to a huge everyday market in Montalivet in high season with over
150 stalls in August selling everything from oysters at 5 euros a dozen with a glass of white wine at 1 euro
to hippy beads and foody specialities from all over France. There are plenty of stalls for wine tasting
at all prices. Medoc wines are the best in the world and some of our local chateaux have some interesting bargains. They are a practical not snobbish breed, passionate about their wine and you will often find the son or daughter or even the owner of the chateau manning the stand.. have a chat and arrange a visit..
they'll be delighted. Bordeaux (voted Europe's coolest city) is an easy days visit.
WINTER ACTIVITIES.
Vendays-Montalivet really is a destination for all seasons. Bordeaux, Ile de Re and Cap Ferret are all accessible to explore out of the tourist season. There is something special in winter about this area, the least populated in
France, wide clear skies with spectacular stars, mysterious autumn mists, ceps, girolles and every kind of mushroom to search for in the forest and on the dunes. Long walks along the beaches, visits to the 300
medoc chateaux mostly open in winter, smell the mimosa in January, visit the local markets without the
crowds, take your time in Bordeaux and sample the flea market in Place St. Michel on Sunday morning,
eat at the Brasserie at the antiques centre and then see a film at the Utopia (4 little cinemas in a converted
church) showing all the best international films. Find one of the reasonable hotels all over Bordeaux
and explore the city on foot ,stroll round the Monday market in Place St. Michel ..you'll be surprised!
Pey au Bruc is a family home with antique furniture, paintings, books and quirky unusual decorative features
throughout. I try to give the experience of living in a living organic house, as authentic as possible as you would find in any French country house which has evolved through the generations. If your antique lamp has developed a wobble or the brass and silver candlesticks are not gleaming like new every week or the odd
spider has appeared this is not the house for you. This is not a house equipped just for summer rentals. .
Ikea low voltage, wipe clean melamine tables and plastic wood floors but I do employ 2 excellent cleaners who work from 9a.m. to 4 p.m to clean and mop every floor for 5 hours. I do provide antique linen sheets, crisp pure cotton pillow cases, soft lighting, flowers, 30 candlesticks with candles, flowery cotton quilts in soft colours, antique caste iron roll top baths, antique taps. big antique pottery bowls and kitchen equipment that is nice to us
