I'M BORED' are words you'll NEVER hear from your children at Montalivet seaside resort. The Beach house, authentic and charming, is 4 MINUTES walk to the beach, 3 MINUTES walk from centre of town, 2 MINUTES walk to Montalivet's huge everyday market selling (everything from hippy beads to oysters and champagne) and 1 MINUTE to relaxing in your deckchair with a glass of rose in the private sunny garden. 22 bars and restaurants, clothes shops, surf shops, ice cream parlours, a large Aldi supermarket and every kind of entertainment are within a short walk. Supervised swimming and surfing and a high street pedestrianised every morning and evening mean you can relax with a book under the 20m verandah knowing your older children are safe and giving them a sense of independence. Every kind of sport is available, a tree walk adventure park, surfing lessons, biking and quad hire, paintball, clock golf. riding, etc. and bicycles and surfboards can be hired cheaply. Off street parking.

In July and August The Beachouse is reserved for large family parties and groups of friends who will enjoy the house as 1 unit, although the fact that it was originally 3 units or flats will give a degree of privacy and independence to family members who so desire it. As 1 house it has seven bedrooms, 4 double bedrooms, 2 bedrooms with three single beds suitable for children and one bedroom with a double bed and a 120 cm. bed. There are 3 bathrooms, 2 with showers (simple wet room variety) and one with bath suitable for children. OUT OF SEASON (not July and August) the house works well as three units : WEST Flat 1 double bedroom, 1 with 3 singles, kitchen, washing machine , sitting room and Satellite TV. Separate gate, garden and verandah. MIDDLE flat 3 double bedrooms. kitchen, with all mod cons. and washing up machine. sitting room, bathroom with shower. long verandah and charming sand garden with separate gate. EAST flat , kitchenette, small bathroom with shower, 2 bedrooms.

ESTUARY, the Gironde estuary is the least polluted in Europe with 3 metre sturgeons and a small caviar industry. The little oyster ports along the estuary have a charm of their own with small seafood restaurants along the river. HEALTH, the THALASSATHERAPY centre at Euronat 10 minutes.

Notes: Accommodation is simple clapboard seaside style with tongue and groove interiors (Cape Cod!) mainly white or seas blues and greens. Floors are scrubbed boards in the main part except for kitchens and bathrooms which are tiled. It is not spacious but light and airy with high ceilings in keeping with the period of the house. It is an authentic bourgeois Bordelais holiday house with a certain elegance combined with simplicity. Antiques throughout in keeping with the house style, linen sheets and pretty quilts. Fabulous long verandah with red and white tiles and swing seats, pretty sand coastal garden with flowers and herbs.

What a wonderful and interesting place to stay. This is a house packed full of treasures and full of charm that seems to be straight out of a glossy house magazine. The owner is very attentive and even took my youngest child fishing when I was having an off-day. The person who posted a negative comment only stayed for one night so can hardly make a balanced judgement. The dressing up clothes in the wardrobe kept my brood very happy while I dipped into the books there. Sitting out on the verandah was so relaxing - this is definitely a place where you can chill out.

I cannot believe that I visited the same property as the other client who complained about the condition of the property and cleanliness.

After a lot of web-searching I finally stumbled upon the Beachouse in Montalivet and was delighted to find availability - it sure is a popular choice! I enjoyed learning as much as possible about the property and area from the very comprehensive website before I arrived with my family and friends to ensure that I made the most of my time in the Beachouse. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED - Jane met us at the gate and from that point on myself and my party were having the holiday that we all were so looking forward to .... Sun, Surf and a large glass of wine in the evening sitting on the verandah.... Yes the house is casual but designed beautifully with a lot of care and attention to making this a home - rather than a basic functional holiday let.
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

Not what it says on the Tin

We were so disappointed with this property.From the first minute we entered we knew it did in any way look like the pictures advertised. Even our 4 year old boy said " I dont want to stay here Mommy". We stayed for One night as we had no choice. It was then we came to see the full extent of the dirt. The Bathroom was unfit for cleaning children and the pipe was leaking. The paint in the bedrooms was peeling off the walls. The whole house was untidy and had clothes stuffed into a wardrobe. The dirt on top of the fridge and on the shelves was disgusting. When we went to leave the next morning the owner became highly indignant that we had mentioned the mess and stated that no-one had complained about it before
All in all rent this place at your peril.
Owner's Response: Unfortunately for me the client had not paid her rent
in advance as she should have done 6 weeks before her
holdiday and I think she may have used this fact to
return home with her two small children as the weather was
atrocious for 2 weeks...she certainly said nothing when
she arrived in unpleasant weather and proceeded to do a huge shop at Leclerc in Lesparre
which she subsequently left in total which indicated to
me that she was not looking for another gite as she told me but had seen the long term weather forecast at the
tourist office..I feel for clients when the weather is bad
but April can be tricky.....I had 2 cleaners working from
9 til 4 on the Saturday before her arrival and they are
very good. Jane
