Nearest airport via RyanAir and BA is Montpellier: a 40 minute and 70 euro taxi drive from Pezenas. We are an hour from the walled city of Carcassonne, and only 35 minutes to wild flamingoes, 20 minutes to Meze beach, with its seahorses and fishing harbour, 40 minutes to Heric Gorge. Your house is right in the centre of Pezenas. Other major attractions within easy reach are Sete and Agde on the coast, with their beaches and harbours, and the local Dinosaur park as well as water parks, aquariums and seaside amusements. There is a huge amount to see and do within very easy reach, and the tourist office of Pezenas is 2 mins walk away....

  • So we have 3 rooms with double beds, and 3 rooms with 2 singles, and then 3 lots of bunk beds. Outside the summer season, a charge is levied for the cleaning of linen, and the gas central heating - if it is required... CLEAN LINEN is supplied at the start of your stay, but if you want it to be changed every week - for those who stay 2 weeks or more - then please ask our garden, and pay him 3 euros per bed place (e.g 6 euros for a double bed) for new pillow cases and under sheet, and 2 euros per quilt place (4 euros for a double quilt). Alternatively, you are most welcome to wash and dry them yourself - washer provided. TOWELS can be provided - Large Towels are 2 euros per week/fortnight, and small 1 euro per week/fortnight. If you wish clean towels after first week, then it is the same cost for the second week, and of course, you are welcome to clean them yourselves in the washing machine to avoid that cost.

Notes: There is a small bedroom occupied by our 'Gardien' by the front door, and therefore some distance from the rest of the house. The job of the Gardien is to clean the pool every day - in most places it is once a week - to water the plants and feed the fish, empty the bins and assist with baggage on arrival and departure as well as other ways in which our guests can be assisted. Discretion is part of the job, though in rare cases, we have accepted requests for the Gardien to live out, though this is problematic, and they still have to be at the house once a day to do their jobs anyway. You have an allowance of 50 Kwatt hours per week included in the rent, and thereafter it costs 0.2 euro per Kwatt hour. Gas has no allowance, and is the same price. The logic is not to make money, but save energy. For example our chandelier has about 30 bulbs and this discourages guests from leaving it on all night....

What is so special about Pezenas?: Pezenas is famous because it is the town of Moliere, is very old, and has a splendid old quarter (just a few steps from the house). Many artists have their studios and galleries here, and the town is amazingly active in putting on events and attractions from the past, with sword fights, music, food festivals, antique bazaars, ballads and fireworks to name just a few. It has a large and colourful Saturday market, and in summer, the many little shops in the maze of alleys in the old quarter stay open till midnight during the 'nocturnes'. There are nearly 40 restaurants to choose from, all nearby. The tourist office is 1 minute from our house, is excellent, and their guided tour reveals many amazing buildings. All around Pezenas are famous vineyards, such as those of Faugeres, Corbieres and PicPoul, which you can visit. Pezenas is also home to world famous climber Alain Robert (Spiderman), who climbs the worlds highest buildings - he is often around in the bars and is very friendly.

Other Activities: Great shopping, especially for presents and clothes.

Ah! Remembering This Time Last Year....

As I am about to embark on this year's late spring break I am prompted to remember my similar, superb, break last year. Based at this fantastic house, right in the centre of Pezenas, I found so much too hand and yet the house and garden were quiet and private enough to feel we had really 'got away'. Needless to say the children enjoyed all the ammenities and had plenty of space to play - as quietly or as loudly as they wished..!
Though the owners had left ample information on places to go and things to do we did find ourselves calling them to ask about where we could get an extra car seat. It was quickly obvious that they were very helpful and made it clear that we shouldn't hesitate to call them should we require any further information-on anything. Very helpful. Unlike some places I could mention the photographs are a true representation of what you will find, an excellent standard of furnishings and plants that are actually growing not dying ! Excellent Value. We found ourselves as very welcomed 'guests' in someones home rather than just a cold let. A great time was had by all. This year we are in Portugal for May but I know we will be back to Pezenas and this house very soon...there is so much more to explore and (not) do...! PS Our daughter is profoundly deaf - hence why I am happy to check the disability box...we didn't bring any pets so don't know about suitability for pets..!
Owner's Response: Well, I prompted these people for a review because I knew - or thought I knew at least - that they were very happy with house and location. And clearly, if we have a guest who is not happy, we won't be asking them for a review, so....Guess that's how it works though (you can see that I am thinking from the guest's point of view here, but we are consumers too after all). As for pets. We refused a lady with 5 dogs last year, but it depends what you have....

Fine Country Home In Elegant Surroundings

Obviously this house is pretty special, but we found the location was a huge plus as well - just so much to see and do within a stones throw, and also good advice on where else to go in the info sheets, maps on wall etc. The lower garden was a favourite with the adults and it was very helpful to have the pool just outside the main summer kitchen so we could see the kids all the time. Loads of free exotic fruits to eat as well. A few small problems were immediately sorted out by the gardien, who was a major help in unloading/loading our car etc. We are already planning to return there.
Owner's Response: Yes, a lot of our guests find that our 'location is a huge plus'. So many house rentals are out in the styx, which seems romantic, but when you have to get in the car and drive to get a baguette and croissants every morning.... We have at least 4 wonderful bakeries and patisseries within easy walking distance, and send the children every morning. And just everything else is so near that we only use the car for the daytrips. We even walk out to the brasseries for lunch - some offer very good deals, and are just a minute away - which is just too easy and tempting to ignore. Actually, Pezenas is much more romantic and attractive than most villages anyway - Just check out my photo gallery on the Picasa website (which we will give you if you email us).
