Travel tips and advice
If travelling out of season be sure to pack winter woollies! Villa Gioconda is an ideal place to relax and unwind and truly sample the delights of Southern Italy Near Paestum are the many mozzarella di bufala producers where one can purchase the cheese as well as see it being made. The nearby pizzeria is open on week-ends during the slow season, don't miss the pizza there on Saturday or Sunday night.
Weather in CIlento
In Cilento, the weather is mild all year round, the beaches are sun-drenched from sunrise to sunset, and enjoying them is pleasant from the beginning of spring time until autumn, not mentioning sometimes even in winter. I personally find it pleasant to go for a swim in the area in September and the beginning of October: sea temperature is mild just like the weather around; the water is limpid and transparent, as the air surrounding you; and the colors of the scenery are vivid everywhere… plus the fact that you will find only few fortunate people like you to share the beach and all the beauty of the place with …
Agropoli
Agropoli is a coastal agricultural village, located at the beginning of Cilento National Park, at 53 km (about 33 miles) from Salerno. Its name derives from the Greek 'high city', although it seems to have been founded by the Byzantines. The main town overlooks the sea and is perched on high cliffs. A great place to keep a look out, as the Byzantine castle suggests, although it didn't stop the Saracens eventual conquest. Dominated by the historical centre, with a feudal castle accessible through a beautiful door, it represents one of the most important and lively place of Cilento National Park. The town, where have been recently found some tombs of an age prior to the byzantine period, keeps also the medieval ruins of S. Francesco's monastery, the church of Holy Mary of Costantinople (XVI century), S. Marco's, S. Francesco's, Tresino and Pagliarulo towers, in fairly good conditions. A small port, a traditional and comforting hospitality, the charming beach of Trentova bay.

Eleanor Howarth, Uckfield, United Kingdom. March 24, 2007 - We loved Villa Gioconda, the location is perfect with far reaching views across to Capri and the Amalfi Coastline. The villa is in a peaceful location which is very private. It is a 5 minute walk from an excellent pizzeria/bar which opens weekends out of season and full time in the high season. The town of Agropoli is only a couple of miles away and the old town is a treat.
The villa is approx. 1 hour 30 mins from Naples airport and a good hour from the Amalfi coastline. It is such a beautiful part of Italy, there is so much to see. The villa is finished to a very high standard and is a real gem. It is definitely a treat to spend a week at the Villa Gioconda. Valerie Schneider, Bolingbrook, IL, United States
October 14, 2006 - Perched on a hill above Agropoli, we spent a week at Villa Gioconda entranced by the views from the many terraces.
