GENERAL INFORMATION:
GOLF - The existing golf course at Caleta de Fuste (Home to the Spanish open in 2004), extends over approx 6000 metres, an 18 hole par 70 course. Golf buggies are available for hire at the clubhouse which also has a restaurant, Bar, Golf range and more. There are 3 lakes with a stream which meanders between them. Most of the course is quite flat. There is also a new 18 hole golf course (next door to the existing one), which is par 70, which offers similar to the above. EL COTILLO (30 min) - A small fishing village with unspoilt beaches (watch out for the nudist beach). GRAN TARAJAL (20 min) - An ancient entrance gate for pirates, it is very picturesque, with a promenade, shops and restaurants. COSTA CALMA (30 mins) - Wide, safe beaches, MORRO JABLE (50 min) Tourist town with shops and restaurants and beaches, SOTAVENTO (40 min) Long sandy beaches ideal for surfing and wind surfing. CORRELEJO (40 min) - With day trips to Lanzarote, lots of shops and restaurants, small beaches.
CALETA DE FUSTA (Also called Costa Caleta):
Calete de Fuste is purpose built for tourism, except the old fort which still stands proud amongst the new developments. There is never a bad time to take a holiday villa for rent in Fuerteventura. There are almost constant breezes which bless the Canary Islands with a refreshing yet hot climate, and both the beaches and pools at the holiday villas in Fuerteventura are a luxury all year round. You are never short of things to do in Caleta de Fuste as it boast some fine shops and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema, plus ten-pin bowling and an excellent Spa facility. Water sports and boat trips are available from the harbour, with whale watching, sea lions and dolphin cruises as specialities. The nightlife provides live music and a wide variety of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. If needed, taxis are cheap and plentiful. It also holds an African style market on the main street which is worth a look (Remember to barter).
INFORMATION ABOUT FUERTEVENTURA :
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, located 60 miles off the coast of Morocco. It is blessed with sandy beaches and a temperate climate all year round. With 3,000 hours of sunshine every year, the temperature varies from 62F in January to 77F in August. There are many enormous sand dunes, long sandy beaches and isolated rocky coves on the island, with surfing and wind-surfing a speciality. For cheap flights to Fuerteventura, it is best to shop around. Volcanic craters, river mouths and dramatic coastal views can all be found by bicycle, and for those who require a little more speed, there are off-road motorcycle tours too! Betancuria (15 min drive), the old capital of the island, was largely destroyed by pirates in the late 1500s, but was re-built in 1691, and still maintains much of its original architecture. Traditional craft shops and restaurants thrive in the area, and the cathedral has been turned into the museum.
