Bruges house review

The property is well situated near to the city centre. A short walk takes you to the heart of things. There is an excellent butcher and baker nearby. The road itself is a side road, but there are a few youth hostels on the main road nearby. We experienced a lot of nightime noise from these.
The house itself was clean and basically comfortable. The kitchen is the best feature. The one concern that we had was the stairs. They are polished wood, steep, spiral and have no risers. There are 2 sets, the second set lead to the attic twin room. We felt that they are not suitable for children, and had to give our kids (7&9) a bucket for nightime use in case they fell down the stairs trying to get to the loo in the night!. We would not recommend the house for small children for this reason. The landing balustrade would let a small child fall through. The owner was polite and helpful and picked us up from the station.
This property would be suitable for young couples or friends.
Owner's Response: The stairs are typical for all cosy houses in Bruges. There is some thruth that you have always to be carefull with children and stairs; but in our opinion, this review is a bit exaggerated...
We had a lot of families with children and they all loved the house and especially the attic bedroom. When this seemed to be a "problem", they could have changed the rooms, so that the children slept on the first floor at a few metres of the toilet ...
