The capital of Liguria is Genova, the historic coastal city, which was the birthplace of Christophorus Colombus. Liguria is one of the smallest regions of Italy, and one of the most beautiful: sea and mountains are a unique blend. The East Riviera is famous all over the world for its enchanting creeks and typical fishing villages (Nervi, Camogli, Portofino, Zoagli, Chiavari, Sestri Levante, Cinque Terre, Portovenere etc.). Genova is the capital of Liguria and Italy’s mayor port. It was already a busting commercial centre by the 4th century and reached its maximum influence as a Maritime Republic in the 1200’s. Genova is closed to the North by an amphitheatre of hills, where forts, towers and walls covering 13 km, where built as protection of the harbour. This fortified system crowns the city and builds a fantastic panorama points with 360° view on the mountains and sea. A ride by the funicular railway from the city centre to the Righi Hill is an unforgettable experience.
