Great value for family and friends

Rarely do you get a skiing holiday that matches the owners’ view of how great their own chalet is. Well, Sophie might just be the exception…
We rented the chalet across New Year 2007: my wife and I; 16/14 year old son and daughter, plus friends, with kids of similar ages.
It’s set in a quiet hamlet; very welcoming, extremely comfortable and well appointed… homely, to the point that we rarely ventured out of an evening, but rather sat around the fire, occasionally moving as far as the table tennis table when we needed to work off dinner. Music, games and DVD’s were on hand for the kids, when they got bored with their parents’ tales of fantasy skiing (…so it was a good job there was a stack of them!). Great views of the mountains (also available from the outside hot-tub, beer in hand - bliss; although not from the indoor sauna - but you can’t have everything!). The scenery is fantastic, especially when complimented with great food (cooked - yes! - breakfast; canapés/four course evening meal) and very decent wine. The chalet manager couldn’t have been more helpful and got on really well with the kids… although couldn’t persuade ours to ‘convert’ to snow boarding! When we did feel the need to explore, it’s an easy walk down the piste, or along the road, to 1550… where there’s plenty to do and for all ages. Oh yes, and there’s a great arrangement with a local hire company that will come to the chalet to supply/fit boots and skis. So farewell those Skis Location queues and angst!
The skiing? You’re simply in one of the best ski areas there is (and we’ve been to a lot over the years)… literally on your front doorstep. Full ski-in and-out, for all abilities. Our kids thought that being able to ski straight into the ski room was ‘so cool’. There is a fantastic choice of slopes for all grades of skiers and more restaurants than you can shake a ski-pole at, although some are a bit pricey. Although our guys are beyond lessons, we understand the ski school is pretty good and conveniently located at 1550, below the chalet. For those who want a little more freedom… on the day we booked a ski guide, it really opened our eyes to the on and off-piste opportunities that the Trois Vallees offers. Oh yes, and the toboggan run down from 1850 is an absolute blast for the whole family!
We’re at Sophie again this year and when a 16 and 14 year old say they’re actually excited about the idea of something, you know you’re onto a winner! Can’t recommend it enough!
