This large holiday property has an oak beamed,newly equipped,large kitchen leading onto the terrace.Two double bedrooms with king-size beds(1 with ensuite shower,sink & toilet),a twin room,large bathroom & 2 separate toilets are downstairs.2 travel cots & high chairs available plus 2 folding beds.Upstairs are two large twin bedded,low beamed rooms,ideal for older children/teenagers with shared shower room with sink and toilet.The lounge has comfortable sofas,open fireplace,DVD/satellite TV & Wi fi internet access.The spacious dining room seats 12.The house has oil fired central heating.French windows lead from the sitting room to the south facing terrace & BBQ with views over the vineyards & pool area.The heated 11m x 5.5m pool has underwater lights & a child alarm.There is a pool house with table & chairs, poolside toilet & solar powered shower.There is plenty of lawn & a new swings and slide.Secure covered parking to the side of the house is accessed by electronic gates.

The Charente region has a micro-climate that makes it the second sunniest region in France. The countryside is beautiful: gently rolling hills, vineyards and sunflower fields. The riverside town of Cognac is only a 15 minutes' drive while historic Saintes, with its stunning Roman amphitheatre, is under an hour away. The walled capital of the Charente, the city of Angouleme with its imposing cathedral, is a 30 minute drive. Futuroscope theme park is about a ninety minute drive should you want a special family day out. The beautiful sandy beaches of Royan are only an hour's drive as is the old town of La Rochelle with its historic harbour and wonderful seafood restaurants. The town of Segonzac is just 10 minutes' drive away with restaurants, shops, bank, post office, chemist and supermarket. There are tennis courts here and, a few miles away, at Jarnac, golf, bike and boat hire and many water sports. The village of Ambleville, with a shop/ boulangerie, is only ten minutes' walk away.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We provide sheets, pillowcases and towels free of charge but do ask guests to bring their own pool towels.
    The heated pool is usually open from May to the beginning of October.
    For cooler months, central heating and wood for the open fire are included in the prices.
    A first instalment payment of 25% is required to secure booking. Balance to be payable 12 weeks before arrival.
    Damages deposit of £250 per booking required when final balance is paid (to be refunded within two weeks of your departure subject to a satisfactory property inspection) Changeover day: Saturday. (Flexible in low season).

Regular annual holiday for old friends

La Roumade is a perfect holiday retreat. Not only a beautifully maintained pool, gardens and terrrace(we ate every meal outside) and house, but - unusually in our experience - wonderful beds and a large well equipped kitchen. Walk to Boulangerie/shop and bar and use the car for lots of exploring in this lovely region.
.We lounged by the pool and went to restaurants and Cognac tastings, but the 20- somethings did water skiing and windsurfing /sailing nearby. Beach an hour - but Ille d'Oleron beaches only 90 mins. We'll come again and have recommended it to our friends!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway

Our week in La Roumade was a real treat as the weather allowed us to enjoy the large pool and surrounding gardens in the sunshine. A great base to explore the local area, but we found it hard to do much more than shop for our food and wine in a variety of markets. Lounging by the pool, great play space for the kids and dinner "al fresco" every night in a beautiful, well-equipped house. We recommend it all!

Perfect French country getaway

Enjoyed our stay in this house very much. Will definitely come back!

House is very private and provides tranquility throughout. Even though it is rather large, we (two adults and our baby) enjoyed the house immensely. The kitchen is beautiful and fully equipped. Excellent beds, which is not always the case in France!
Only possible improvement: TV connection, handy for when you want to check the weather reports and if you will be able to sunbathe and/or swim the next day!

Amenities include a bakery in the village nearby and excellent hypermarches in Chateaubernard near Cognac (approx. 25 minutes drive).

Would definitely recommend to friends and family!
