Almeria/Vera:
Almeria is Spain's best kept secret and its golf courses are green oases in this unique and beautiful region of Spain. Almeria enjoys its own special micro-climate and is the warmest, driest area in the whole of Europe, with an average of only 16 days of rain per annum.
Vera is one of the oldest towns in the whole of Spain and indeed boasts the second oldest bull ring in the country. The town itself is a typical Spanish town, where you will find plenty of very cheap restaurants and tapas bars if you just want to mingle in with the locals. Vera Playa has some of the best beaches to be found in the whole of southern Spain, 9 km long and in places 200 metres deep full of fine golden sand.
The villa itself is located on the prestigious Valle del Este Golf Resort. The resort comprises an 18 hole challenging golf course, 4 star hotel with gym and health spa, golf school and driving range. There is also a commercial area containing bars, shops and restaurants.
Valle del Este Golf Resort:
Opened in 2002 and designed by Jose Canales. This spectacular course with its elevated tees requiring desert carries, its several lakes and waterfalls, mountain backdrops, ravines and gulleys on most holes. All these natural features are in contrast to the beautifully manicured greens, tees and fairways, making you feel as though you are in a green oasis amongst the mountains and desert region of Spain, consequently making your shot-making onto the landing areas of the fairways truly BREATHTAKING.
The Valle del Este Golf School offers private tuition, group tuition, weekend and intensive courses. The modern facilities include a cooled driving range in summer and illuminated in winter. Two putting greens and chipping greens. The hotel offers a choice of restaurants/dining areas, superb health and beauty spa, gym, fantastic horizon swimming pool and bar. Other bars/restaurants and supermarket are also located on the resort.
Other Nearby Golf Courses:
Desert Springs: Europe’s first desert golf course, designed by Peter McEvoy. This Indiana Course is a contrast of the fabulously and beautifully prepared tees, greens and fairways, set against rugged mountains and desert type roughs most littered with huge boulders and rocks, combine this with its many and varied cacti and you really do feel you could be in Arizona rather than 10 minutes from the beaches of Southern Spain!
Marina de la Torre: Another hilly course, not as demanding as the previous two, but with truly fantastic sea views. Cortijo Grande: Not widely known, this 9 hole golf course is set high up the mountains of Sierra Cabrera, only €15 to play for a whole days ticket. If you have time to find this little jewel you will be well rewarded for the scenery alone, built in a valley with breathtaking views over the plains of Andalucia.
Newly opened Macenas Golf Course (Mojacar Playa) details to follow shortly.
