Photos and Description of this Orgiva holiday farmhouse A self-catering rental with private garden, swimming pool and air conditioning

Cortijo Las Naranjas. This is a beautifully renovated farmhouse set in a quiet location but only 5 minutes walk from the town. The house is very well equipped with several luxury items and maintained and decorated to the highest standard. The house is just on the outskirts of Orgiva, which is the main town of the Alpujarras, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty as it is surrounded on all sides by the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, La Contraviersa and the Sierra Lujar, which take you down to the coast. It is an ideal all year round destination as Autumn, Winter and Spring are the best time for walkers/climbers. Of course the main attraction in the summer is the pool and the coast which is very close. CAR HIRE. If you do not want the expense of hiring a car we can organise airport transfers at time of booking. If you only want a car for a couple of days there is a hire care office in Orgiva, Adrienne can help with the booking process once you are here.

Cortijo Las Naranjas in Autumn

fatsmithy Sandwick, Shetland, UK
Review Submitted: October 23, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We, two adults and one 15 year old, stayed for a week at the Cortijo in mid October. The weather was perfect and our time in Orgiva was great so my review may be a bit on the sunny side too.

The Cortijo is quiet and secluded yet only a 5-10 minute walk from the town centre bakery for your morning bread. On arrival, we got Adrienne to meet us, more on this later. The place was clean, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked / bbq-ed most days despite the multitude of cafe's and restaurants in the town. The furniture inside and outside is more than adequate, the pool was drained for maintenance so we can't comment on that however it looked a pretty good size with decking for the four sun loungers. If you want it there is a DVD and TV as well as a small CD player.

I cannot imagine how you could find the Cortijo without Adrienne meeting you. The drive takes in what looks like a private yard, an odd little cut through under a bridge, a narrow lane and finally a section of track which eventually crosses a dry river bed. All is perfectly manageable unless you are driving some low slung sports car however I would struggle to give usable directions.

As well as the bakers and restaurants Orgiva has a couple of adequate mini markets where you can get everything you need in the way of food and other provisions. There is a market on Thursday morning which as well as the "new age" element has a number of fantastic fruit and veg stalls.

Orgiva is about 20 minutes drive on winding but good roads from the A44 Autovia either South for the Med, we used the beaches at the West side of Almunecar which were good, or North through Lanjeron for access to Granada and the Alhambra (make sure you book online before you go) both of which take about 50 minutes from the Cortijo. It is also a great place for exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains.

In summary if you want the full Costa Del Sol experience then this place probably isn't for you however if you want something a little more authentically Spanish, want to mix the mountains and the sea but also want it quiet and comfortable then give this place a try.

Lovely Cortijo in Orgiva

Melkat Whitchurch-On-Thames, England
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We had a lovely time at "Las Naranjas". The property has been renovated to a high standard, is equipped with everything you need and is the perfect escape from normal working life. There are lots of superb views of the Siera Nevada and some great restaurants near by.

A car is needed for mountain roads and alot easier if you have small children! Some of the tracks can be a bit tough on the pushchair!!

Exactly what we wanted!

Callymac Western Isles (Glasgow)
Review Submitted: September 7, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Just back from a week long stay at the cortijo and couldn't have asked for a more hassle free and relaxing holiday.

The cortijo is situated ideally for many things, but you are also off the beaten track and in the heart of rural Spain. We had a hire car for the holiday and drove comfortably from Malaga airport in about 2 hours. The house is exactly as described and we were really taken with the citrus fruits growing in the garden and olives. The pool as clean and well maintained as was the house with quality furnishings throughout.
The first couple of days were spent enjoying the house, the pool and the barbecue with no real need to venture out.
Afterwards we toured the coast, having lunch on the beaches were a great way to spend the day. I would also thoroughly recommend taking the tour of Granada and the Alhambra.
Even with all our touring, it was great to come back and relax by the pool for the sunset enjoying a glass of wine or a beer.
Orgiva itself is a colourful little town and it's facilities are more than ample for a stay. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner twice at El Limonero and is a must for any visitor. The local tapas bars are also something that should be attempted although we didn't explore this as much as we would have hoped.

I would thoroughly recommend this for families or couples looking to get away from it all and having a stress free holiday.

Amazing Alpujarras!

princesspentium West London
Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The villa was very good overall. Adrienne, the caretaker, had agreed to meet us at 3pm instead of the usual 5pm, as we had driven a long way on the start day and wanted to settle in asap. We paid her €25 as a 'meet & greet' fee, and she also purchased a few basics like water, bread, butter etc as supermarkets don't open in Spain on Sundays ( & the Saturday we arrived was also a public holiday!)

The villa is fairly spacious, an old property with a reasonable bit of land, which is given over to orange & olive trees. The two bedrooms were a good size and the quality of the furnishings acceptable. The bathroom of the main bedroom has a good free standing shower and the original bread oven - however there was very little space to stand toiletries - a small unit or shelf would be a plus. There was one bedside table and lamp, a tall narrow chest of drawers and 3 hooks on the wall for clothes - this room really NEEDS a wardrobe.
The 2nd bedroom, containing a large double bed and bunks, also had an ensuite bathroom but no mirror, or anywhere to store toiletries. There were no bedside tables or lamps, a bare light bulb and only a small mirror. A full length mirror would be a good addition. No wastebins either.
The kitchen was of traditional style with 2 sinks made from Andalucian ceramics, a good dishwasher and in a small room off the kitchen a washing machine. There was plenty of crockery & cutlery but a very limited amount of serving bowls (eg 1 pyrex casserole & basin), no tray for carrying things to the outside terrace, salad bowl or bread basket.
The outside terrace was lovely to eat on, underneath the vines.
The lounge has 2 comfy sofas, but again, another coffee table and lamp would help, it was difficult to read in the evenings, with just the overhead spotlights. A tv & dvd player were included but with no dvds to play (luckily we had brought some) it would have been superfluous to others,
The swimming pool, on the raised deck was great for cooling off. However with only one broken parasol, wired to the deck (because it had fallen over in the wind) it was impossible to move it when the sun changed direction. A 2nd parasol would be a plus.
This review may sound negative but it's constructive advice to the owners. We had a brilliant time, loved the fact that we didnt have to use the car to go into town, but wander 5 -10 mins up the track and found the area stunning. This villa is very good value despite my minor criticisms. We will go back!
Owner's Response: The owners welcome feedback and if the reccommendations made are both appropriate and reasonable suggestions will be heeded and actioned upon wherever possible as they wish to provide a quality service for your precious holiday time.

Family Fun

scots bunch Ladybank, Fife, Scotland
Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent the first week of our holiday at the Cortijo. The house is extremely spacious and the photos on the site do not do it justice. It is big, very well equipped, clean and well maintained. The plot is huge with bags of space for children to run around the garden.
We did have a power cut whilst there - due to use of too many 'appliances'! However, Adrienne was with us within half an hour of me raising the issue with her and reassured me it would be fixed by the time we returned from our day out - which it was - thanks to her and Dusty.
The approach to the Cortijo is a bit tricky - lots of huge boulders to navigate on the track and quite a tricky turning into the Cortijo - so be prepared for that - especially if you have a car load of people and luggage!
We were concerned about the decked area around the pool as the gaps between the decking are very big and with 2 young children (youngest just 2), we had to ensure they stayed away from the sides as they would have easily slipped through (this meant a restricted play area for them and not quite so relaxing for us!) However, I understand that Adrienne has now raised this with the owners and this will be fixed in September.
The Cortijo is well placed for visiting the other villages in the area as well as the coast and Granada.
Orgiva was quieter than we had expected. There are lots of good restaurants in the town - read the visitor book for tips on good restaurants.
Be prepared for lots of flies! But if you have read Chris Stewart's Driving Over Lemons - you'll know that flies are part and parcel of this area!!
We had a good week, kids enjoyed it and we think the house is great.
Adrienne and Dusty are both very helpful and friendly.
