Whitbarrow village is a great place for a family holiday be as energetic or relaxed as you wish. There are many beautiful walks around and about. The pretty village of Greystoke is only a few minutes by car and is well worth a visit with its beautiful old church, village post office and of course the local pub which serves food during the evening and Sunday lunch. During the summer the open air pool is available and along side that is the kiddies playground. From there travel on to Penrith a market town that has the charm of how towns used to be, with its small friendly cinema, this is a great experience and far away from the multi-plex cinemas of many towns these days it is well worth a visit. In the centre of Penrith is the George Hotel fabulous snacks and meals great coffees, winter time is lovely with the open fires and warm. friendly atmosphere. This area is lovely for those who wish to go back in time and enjoy life at a leisurely pace.
Rheged with its huge cinema, Keswick with its lake:
Rheged is one of the lakes popular tourist attractions, its has huge cinemas which show film of a very different nature to the local cinema these are educational and thoroughly enjoyable for example discover Everest, or a bugs world as well as the cinema there are also exhibitions, small shops and coffee shop and all this is underground for further info try their web page. Not far from Rheged is the Dalmain House a beautiful old house set in fabulous grounds with gardens and a delicious tea shop opening times vary depending on time of year again they hold various events and exhibitions. Another area not to miss is Keswick with its main street which holds the market on certain days. Its a beautiful place regardless of the weather, cobbled streets, tea shops specialist shops and fun things for the kids, crazy golf, pitch and putt plus nice restaurants. The lake operates sailing trips these vary depending on the time of year, but its a great way to sit back and relax.
Go further afield to Carlisle or down to Windermer:
A beautiful old city with its castle it makes a lovely place to wander and is the gateway to the Scottish borders, whilst staying at Whitbarrow you really can see a large part of the lake district. Go south and you come to Windermere what some people regard as the main tourist place, it is well worth a visit as is Ambleside and so many more places in the lakes, everyday can be spent exploring one of the most beautiful places in England or if preferred just staying at Whitbarrow village and relaxing in the pool or jacuzzi, having a drink at the bar and enjoying the evening entertainment the choice is yours.
