Fun for all the family and romantic for couples: Whitbarrow village is a great place for a family holiday be as energetic or relaxed as you wish. There are many beautiful walks around and about. The pretty village of Greystoke is only a few minutes by car and is well worth a visit with its beautiful old church, village post office and of course the local pub which serves food during the evening and Sunday lunch. During the summer the open air pool is available and along side that is the kiddies playground. From there travel on to Penrith a market town that has the charm of how towns used to be, with its small friendly cinema, this is a great experience and far away from the multi-plex cinemas of many towns these days it is well worth a visit. In the centre of Penrith is the George Hotel fabulous snacks and meals great coffees, winter time is lovely with the open fires and warm. friendly atmosphere. This area is lovely for those who wish to go back in time and enjoy life at a leisurely pace.

Rheged with its huge cinema, Keswick with its lake: Rheged is one of the lakes popular tourist attractions, its has huge cinemas which show film of a very different nature to the local cinema these are educational and thoroughly enjoyable for example discover Everest, or a bugs world as well as the cinema there are also exhibitions, small shops and coffee shop and all this is underground for further info try their web page. Not far from Rheged is the Dalmain House a beautiful old house set in fabulous grounds with gardens and a delicious tea shop opening times vary depending on time of year again they hold various events and exhibitions. Another area not to miss is Keswick with its main street which holds the market on certain days. Its a beautiful place regardless of the weather, cobbled streets, tea shops specialist shops and fun things for the kids, crazy golf, pitch and putt plus nice restaurants. The lake operates sailing trips these vary depending on the time of year, but its a great way to sit back and relax.

Go further afield to Carlisle or down to Windermer: A beautiful old city with its castle it makes a lovely place to wander and is the gateway to the Scottish borders, whilst staying at Whitbarrow you really can see a large part of the lake district. Go south and you come to Windermere what some people regard as the main tourist place, it is well worth a visit as is Ambleside and so many more places in the lakes, everyday can be spent exploring one of the most beautiful places in England or if preferred just staying at Whitbarrow village and relaxing in the pool or jacuzzi, having a drink at the bar and enjoying the evening entertainment the choice is yours. CENTRE PARCS ALSO DO A DAY PASS AND AS THE COTTAGE IS FIFTEEN MINUTES DRIVE AWAY YOU CAN SPEND A FULL DAY THERE, TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE TOURIST INFORMATION OFFICE IN PENRITH

What an excellent holiday

Review Submitted: October 23, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We have returned from a fabulous week at Whitbarrow. Having a teenager we wanted a holiday which would suit everyone, and it worked a treat. Derwant water is close by and having tried our hand at canoeing, on it and walking up Cats Bels were always delighted to return and make full use of the facilities, our teenager raved about the gym whilst we found the sauna and steam room most relaxing after our busy days.

Our cotage was well equiped and provided an excellent base. We ate in the restaurant three times and each time had a lovely meal. I would reccommend this holiday to anyone who wants to chill out and relax, or go for a more action packed holiday. The pictures provided give an excellent view of how the cottage actually looks.. The only minor difference is that the jacuzzi has been moved so you now sit and look out a huge window to the beautiful scenery and hills beyond.

Thank you for a wonderful week

Kirkstone Cottage

Nictry Kent
Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Just returned from a week in the lovely Lake District and in the main had a great time. I would like to start by saying the cottage is in a wonderful condition, freshly painted and very tidy, all the ameneties are great and my family loved the style of the property which made for a pleasing break.

The downside unfortunately is the actual Seasons resort. The pool and associated activities e.g Sauna, Jacuzzi etc. broke down just 3 days into the holiday and quite frankly the staff didn't seem too bothered, they just provided a 'swim only' voucher to use at Penrith leisure centre, some 10 miles away (this pool is very busy and nothing like the cosy clean and fresh environment of the Season's pool area) When asked how long the pool was out of action for they said about a week or so (there was a sign on our last day saying the earliest it would be fixed was the middle of the following week!)

The staff at the resort also don't seem to care much for the restrictions on using the play equipment, e.g. pool, table tennis etc. and on a couple of occasions just forgot my kids were waiting to use the equipment and let someone else jump the queue and again really didn't seem to care when asked what they could do about their errors!

Enough about the resort, the surrounding area is fab, central for trips to the lakes, nearby Carlisle for a day out and a trip or two into Scotland were all enjoyed by the family (even if the weather was only up to the usual British standards!!!) Also a great Pub/Restaraunt at the bottom of the road to the resort (friendly and great food too!)

All in all can't recommend the cottage highly enough for great accommodation and a comfortable time as a home from home, I would also add the owners are a pelasure to deal with and communication throughout was excellent. Just make sure you don't rely solely on the amenities at the resort in case they don't work as planned!!!

great family location

Review Submitted: May 19, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
This property is excellent if you have young children. The house itself was lovely and clean and was well equipped, right down to toilet paper. As it was on a resort there was excellent customer service. It never felt like a resort, even though we were informed that the resort was full it was lovely and quiet and never felt crowded. The communal areas were clean and well maintained and the swimming pool was perfect on rainy days. All the facilities on the resort were well maintained. We had a lovely stay. It is very close to the Rheged Centre which is great for food and for finding something different to take home and again a fantastic facility if you have small children as there is a soft play there. The house is also well located if you want to explore the lake district as it was close, but not too close to the A66.
