Fantastic property in unspoilt Minho in northern Portugal.

This lovely apartment is situated on the edge of the small fishing village of Caminha in Northern Portugal close to the border with Spain 100 metres from the river that spills down from the Highlands of Portugal into the Atlantic Ocean. It is unspoilt, calm and friendly. Picturesque in the extreme, full of life and close by to some of the best countryside in Portugal. Vilar da Mouros is fabulous inland as in Ponte da Lima, famous for green wine and it's river side aspect. Caminha itself is on the river that divides Portugal and Spain and great beaches are just down the road. Vila Nova da Cerveira, a few minutes north by car, has not to be missed markets and if you continue north you come to Spain and the real delights of Vigo, one of the wonderful undiscovered cities of Spain, boasting some fabulous architecture, great restaurants and open all hours nightlife. The second city of Portugal, Porto, is an hour to the south and is a Portuguese gem.

Accommodation and Facilities for the apartment in Portugal

Golf Courses Nearby.

There is an 18 hole golf course in Ponte de Lima, the Axis Golfe Club (00 351 258 743 414) with a Par 71 over 6000 metres. Only 30 minutes by car from Caminha travelling through some stunning countryside, dinner in the main square of Ponte de Lima after the green is a must! The green fee is €55 for 18 holes and €28 for 9.

Water Sports.

Caminha and the nearby beach front village of Moledo offer a whole range of water sports and activities including paragliding, sailing, water skiing, fishing etc. Canoeing takes place further inland too. The small but very good Tourist Information service in Caminha will point you in all the right directions. The Hotel Porta da Sol has a fabulous pool (with a small and safe children's pool next to it) open to non-residents for a small fee per day (ca £5). Lunch is very good there too....

The Food and Wine of Minho.

Caminha is a fantastic place to dine, offering a whole array of different options. Fresh fish are landed daily from 5 am and the market that then follows is a must for all those who love the sights and smells of food! The square of Caminha has several very good restaurants and cafes and there's always a choice of meat or fish, rice dishes and soups to be had. The wine is very good and cheap - Vinho Verde (green wine) is the wine of this region and is perfect with fish and poultry. Less than 100 metres from the apartment there is a renowned restaurant serving vast lunches topped with heavy but delicious puddings and just around the corner towards the river there is a small but fine cafe serving croissants and toasts etc in the morning. Our favourite is 'Petisqueira' in the centre of Caminha which has come to renown throughout the north of Portugal as one of the top places to eat regional food at prices which are modest even for this part of the world.
