Tignes Val Claret holiday apartment in Val Claret

We stayed here in April 2011. We would highly recommend it.

We booked this apartment on the basis of the reviews rather than the photographs. We were right to do so. The photographs make the lounge look narrow - which it is not. The whole apartment is much more spacious, light and airy than the photos do it credit. We have stayed in other french apartments, so knew what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised!

Dave (one of the owners) could not have been more helpful with the booking process, also sending us information about the underground/overground car park (Parking Du Golf, directly opposite) and cheerfully answering all our queries. There is temporary parking outside the apartment to off-load.

The reviews we read talked about the cleanliness and vast amount of kitchen equipment and we would agree. We have never seen so many utensils, cooking pots, glasses and crockery. So much so, that we had a hard time putting away all the food we bought for the week in Bourg! There was also ample bedding, pillows and towels and a bin in the bathroom (so I guess reviewer comments from Feb 2011 were taken on board!)

Two things worth noting:

(1) there is no WIFI, but if you go and sit outside on the apartment steps, you can log on to tignesnet.com which gives you free wifi access from the tourist information office opposite. During the day you can go inside the office with your lap top, where they have charge points, low tables and comfy chairs.

(2) The top bunk is unsuitable for little children as the ladder is steep and slippy with no hand rail (wouldn't recommend for under 8s). We used the double futon bed in the second bedroom for our littles as a compromise, so you could easily sleep 6 in this apartment if you had a range of ages.

For those who like to watch DVDs after a long day on the slopes, the sofas were veerrrry comfortable.

Good security. Front door pin code access. Ski locker on the ground floor was excellent and secure (free). Lift was great as apartment is on the top floor. We heard no noise from anyone else all week. Mainly french residents.

Great views. Lovely balcony. Could just about ski within 500 metres of the apartment by going along a track towards the Golf parking off the blue run back to the village.

If we go back to Tignes, we would use this apartment again and have recommended it to friends and collegues.

We stayed here in Feb 2011 - 2 adults and 2 children.

We found the owners to be very helpful and easy to contact during the booking process and they provided lots of information about the resort (parking, ski hire etc). Our e-mails were always answered quickly, and questions answered. When we arrived at the resort we were met by Elaine who is English (so no communication issues) who welcomed us to the apartment and explained how everything worked etc. Elaine was very friendly and easy to contact by text and came to the apartment just before we left to return the deposit.

The apartment is in a great position. At the end of Val Claret, more or less next to the tourist information (which seemed to have free wifi if you don't want to use the bars/restaurants - there are several close by). Not only is it on the top floor meaning there is no noise from above - it was very quiet) but it is also on the end, which gives the fab views on three sides!

The apartment is very comfortable and well equipped like others have said (especially the kitchen) although (the only slight negative I can think of to be honest) I personally would have preferred there to be more towels. 4 large good quality towels were provided for the 4 of us for a week, and although they did dry very quickly on the heated towel rail, I think it would have been nicer to also have some hand towels. A bin in the bathroom would also have been useful.

Other than these two very minor things, the apartment had everything that we needed, was nice and clean and felt very homely. Lots of hooks for coats etc, and hanging space in the bunk room.

It may be worth mentioning that the ladder to the top bunk is pretty steep/high to climb - and may be an issue if you have really small children? It was ok for us until both children broke their wrists snowboarding! However, we can say that the mountain rescue team and clinic in Tignes were great (although expensive, so glad we had insurance . . .)!

The ski locker is on the ground floor near the main entrance, and both the entrance and the locker room is opened by code, and your individual locker by key. So very convenient and secure. We fitted in ski's and poles (x2) and 2 snowboards.

In summary, a lovely clean apartment that was much better equipped and more spacious than others we have booked at a similar price. We would happily use it again if we returned to Tignes, and would recommend it to friends and family.

We stayed at the apartment for the first week in January and really enjoyed our stay. We were a party of 5 with two small children and there was plenty of room for all of us. The apartment is in a good location and we managed to ski back most of the way back to the front door.
The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to come back and cook in the apartment as there was everything you could possible need in the kitchen.
The owners were very helpful and provided lots of useful information before we travelled. Would deffinetely return and recommend.
