Bansko ski resort is situated in South-Western Bulgaria at the foot hills of one of the beautiful Bulgarian mountain Pirin. South of Bansko is where the Pirin National Park is situated. It is included in the UN List of National Parks and Reservations and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park covers over 27,400 ha and is famous for its lakes, waterfalls, caves, century-old trees and historical sites. The jagged mountains, include 70 glacial lakes scattered throughout the summer hiking and climbing are popular, with well signed routes and hikers' chalets. Mountain bikes can be hired locally in order to explore this beautiful region. Local companies can organise trips in the mountains e.g. white water rafting, canoeing, paragliding. Also in summer the town hosts a week long jazz festival and other events. This is also a great base for historical sightseeing e.g. the famous Rila Monastery. The area is rich in historical remains, from ancient burial mounds to Roman amphitheatres
Bansko apres ski::
Many traditional villages are in the area, some of which give the chance to see displays such as traditional dancing, folklore events and bag pipe playing. Surrounded by The Pirin, The Rila and The Rhodopa mountains, Bansko is a nice mountain resort with short summer and long winter. Bansko apres ski: For après ski the traditional Bansko taverns (called 'Mehana'), with their exceptional charm and style offer local atmosphere by their cuisine and good selection of Bulgarian wines. Most of the local 'Mehanas' even offer live folk music. Many local cafes and bars offer refreshments. Discos and night clubs work without time limit, and usually close early in the morning. As the cost of living is very cheap in Bulgaria, your money will go several times further here than in skiing resorts in other parts of Europe.

Skiing Information: Bansko is the newest and the most rapidly developing ski resorts in Bulgaria. 40 million Euros have been invested, to create a top rate facility with the best equipment, including a new gondola, snow guns, electronic ski pass system etc. There are 14 pistes totalling 65km, including a 16 km run plus cross country and excellent off piste skiing. Bansko is popular with snowboarders; facilities include a halfpipe. There is a top class ski school for all levels of ability. The ski season is one of the longest; roughly mid December until the end of April. Golf:
Famous for its many mineral hot springs with high therapeutic qualities, the nearby village of Banya, located only 5 km from the town, is a must visit. The healing effects of the thermal springs in these mountains have been famous since antiquity. Pirin Mountains, Pirin National Park encompasses rugged alpine peaks that rise above 8,202ft (2,500m) and more than a hundred glacial lakes spread at their feet. The magnificent landscape is made up of old forests, waterfalls, caves and areas of limestone that are home to the near extinct edelweiss and the Pirin poppy. Characteristic to the park is the abundance of rare and endemic species of plants and animals, and the unique environment is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural and National Heritage site. Holy Trinity Church with its fine belfry and clock tower is famous for its collection of icons and murals painted by local Bansko artists who once made the Bansko School of Painting one of the best in Bulgaria.
