Perfect apartment, perfect holiday.

As soon as our heads hit the pillow on our first night, we knew we had made a great decision in choosing to stay at Reefview apartments.
After being collected from the airport by Karoll (owner of the apartment), we were taken the scenic route through the rainforest back to the apartment. We stopped at a local fruit stand to buy some delicious local pineapple and watermelon, before being given a superb rum punch and some quiet time to relax and get settled. Unused to the heat, we headed straight to the shore for a quick splash about to cool down, and found a deserted coastline, perfect for nature walks. We opted for a welcome dinner on our first evening, which was delicious, and the wine flowed generously.
The apartment had everything we needed and more. Secure screens across the windows meant that bugs were kept out, and the ceiling fans kept the rooms cool and breezy. The bed was comfy and the living area spacious. There was also a safe for all our valuables.
Karoll gave us an excellent introduction the island, equipping us with a map and suggestions for local places to eat and explore.
Highlights of our holiday include..hiring a car and trekking to Rendezvous Bay. The beach was deserted and set between big rolling hills, backed by woodland and greenery. Driving to Halfmoon Bay was a great day out (Karoll can provide cool box, beach chairs etc), as was Devil's Bridge. Evening walks along the shore by the apartment were really special. Almost always had the place to ourselves, and each day managed to see different wildlife before sunset.. Eating dinner on our terrace in candle light was also really memorable, and there is a large supermarket a short drive or bus journey away to collect all you need. We borrowed the Kayak at the apartments and paddled along the coastline and explored the mangrove maze - seeing stingray and starfish on the way.
Ultimately this is supposed to be a review of the apartment rather than the surrounding area, but the two are so explicably linked. The apartment is lovely, and Karoll can recommend all the local places for you to enjoy and get the best out of the island, a service you just wouldn't get at one of the resorts. We did visit the beaches of some of the resorts (Dickenson's, Carlisle Bay and Jolly Beach), but they just didn't compare to some of the more unspoilt beaches and more remote locations.
The apartment is set in a village location, and we found it peaceful and the people very friendly.
