Photos and Description of this Castillonnes area holiday house Close to Bergerac, Dordogne and Lot rivers, suits 2 or a family

The 17th. century house has been carefully renovated to preserve as many of the original features as possible and enlarged by incorporating the outbuildings and the cartmaker's workshop in the renovation. The resulting spacious house has rustic character with all modern amenities. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which is ensuite and can accommodate 6 people comfortably. Accommodation is all on ground level with 2 steps down into two of the bedrooms. The living area has a wood stove for winter comfort. Equipment in the house includes a music system for Cd's, television, ironing board and iron, washing machine, drying facilities, table linen and tea towels. ‘Peyregras Bas’ is in the countryside 2 kilometers from Villeréal. The house and garden are situated alongside a plum orchard with sloping fields down to the river Dropt, and access is kept open for farm work. A child security fence borders the house which has a covered terrace for the summer.

The South West of France is a land of vineyards and plum trees, sunflowers and soft rolling landscape with wonderful views. It is peppered with medieval villages, ancient towns and castles. The house is close to Villeréal, a thirteenth century ‘bastide’ town with a lot of life and character as well as all modern amenities and good supermarkets. Nearby are other bastides like Monpazier, Monflanquin and Beaumont. Medieval Issigeac in the Dordogne, with narrow streets of gorgeous houses, and the Bishop’s palace, is like a small film set plus a door to the rest of the department and the amenities of the Dordogne river. It is also close to Bergerac airport, served by Ryanair and Flybe. There are many activities in the area for all ages and village festivals, concerts and events throughout the summer season. Markets, antique fairs, original neolithic cave paintings, canoeing on the rivers are all feasible.

Donkeys and Art in the South of France

Our family of four was welcomed warmly by Ann Marie and Willem, the owners. We spent only a week there, but could easily have been there longer. For my husband's birthday we hired two donkey carts and drove through farms, woods and a little village. It was a delightful afternoon.

That evening we were invited to attend an art exhibition and dinner with Ann Marie and Willem and had a lovely time meeting people from all over the world.

Our children especially enjoyed picking and eating the fresh cherries and raspberries, which were mouth wateringly good.

The house had everything we needed and more. Our son had a great time starting the fire each night even though it was summer!

We hope to return some day.
