Surrounding opportunities: Monforte: Roman ruins (5 minutes away); Marvão: Fortified mountain-village and its Golf Club (35 minutes away); Castelo de Vide: Castle and the medieval synagogue (35 minutes away); Maranhão: “Barragem de Avis” (20 minutes away) where you can rent canoes and water-bikes; Terrugem: Leather goods and restaurant Veiros: The Easter experience with its procession of the “crucifying of Christ”. Visit the wine fair, the bullfights, the local food market and their cheese, fresh or salted sausages. Estremoz: fair on Saturdays, wine distilleries to visit, restaurants. Alter do Chão: “Lusitano” horses breeding, museum, and hawks.
Further suggestions: 2 hours from the Algarve. Or one hour to Alentejo sea shore of west Alentejo. An 18th century property in the UNESCO protected town called Sintra which is considered one of the worlds jewels.
