Stunning house and garden with beautiful sea views

'A Vigia' (The Lookout) sits on the hillside overlooking the pretty village of Arco da Calheta in SW Madeira. This bit of coast, known as the 'Costa Verde' boasts some of the most beautiful views in Madeira and as such is fast becoming the place to live and holiday for the discerning. The house is detached and set in well tended gardens with sun terraces for outdoor eating and sunbathing. It also has a large BBQ area and gazebo. Inside, the house offers spacious accommodation and is furnished to a high, contemporary standard. The master bedroom has a super king size bed and large ensuite bathroom. The two other bedrooms have twin beds. Both bathrooms have baths and showers. The large open-plan living area has two sofas, a fireplace, TV with cable, DVD, video and CD players, and a large dining table. For the winter months there is a wood burning stove and oil filled radiators for the bedrooms. The house is ideally situated for the sandy beach and levada walking.

Madeira is known for its year round temperate climate with temperatures even in winter rarely falling below 20 degrees. The house's hillside position means that the summer months are not too hot! Unlike its Canary Island neighbours, the island is abundantly green with hedgerows full of flowers. The house is 40 minutes by car using mainly motorway from the airport. The house is a five minute drive from two sandy beaches and Calheta marina with its bars and restaurants. There are several good and inexpensive restaurants nearby and for those that fancy more of a night out, Funchal, Madeira's cosmopolitan capital is 30 minutes away by car. Arco da Calheta and the surrounding villages have small mini markets and a bakery, but more extensive supermarket shopping can be found at Calheta Beach and in the town of Ribera Brava, just 15 minutes away.

Notes to the rental rates

  • £450 per week based on 2 occupants; £550 per week based on 3-4 occupants; £650 per week based on 5-6 occupants. Additional nights are subject to availability and the price is available on request. We charge an additional 15% over Christmas and New Year. One basket of firewood is provided in the winter months per week. Additional wood is charged at €30 per basket - paid locally to the caretaker.
  • A 30% deposit must be paid to secure the booking and is non refundable after 12 weeks prior to departure. The balance must be paid 4 weeks prior to departure. In addition we charge a refundable security deposit of £200 to cover us against loss, breakages and damage. This should be paid with the balance. We ask for the property to be left in a tidy condition on departure.
  • On receipt of balance of payment, directions to the property will be sent out. The caretaker will meet you at the property on arrival and provide keys and familiarise you with the facilities. He is readily available should you have any difficulties.

Notes:

Sorry, but no children under the age of 12 years. 'A Vigia' was built along the lines of a traditional Madeiran 2 story house with 3 bedrooms that that sleep 6 adults in comfort. It is very much our second home and as such has been furnished with care and attention. The kitchen is well equipped and has an electric ceramic hob and oven with grill. There is also a washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. Outside is a BBQ area and gazebo which is perfect for chilling our with a good book and a glass of wine.

From the moment we turned of the 'highway' into the village of Arco da Calheta, we were transported into a different world. We never failed to be exhilarated by the remarkable zig-zag climb through the village tp A Vigia, whose views are truly magnificent over the whold of Arco da Calheta and the ocean beyond. And the sunsets, wow....The villa exceeded our expectations in terms of accommodation and finish and is great value for money. And we were knocked out by the new beach and marina just a short drive away and the local restaurants which offer good inexpensive food. We are absolutely convinced that A Vigia is THE perfect location for a vacation in Madeira - there's no better place to be based. One of our best holidays ever. Thank you!
