Ty Hir is located in peaceful countryside in central Finistere between the villages of Plouyé and Collorec. Plouyé, which has a small grocery shop, is a 5 minute drive. Its characteristic church spire is visible for miles around. Collorec, with its bar/tabac and small grocery store, can be reached in 7 minutes by car.
Beautiful Huelgoat with its lake and boulder strewn forest is a 15 minute drive. There are many bars and restaurants in Huelgoat and a supermarket, grocery store and boulangeries. Other towns nearby include medieval Morlaix, with its atmospheric Saturday morning market, and Carhaix which has all amenties of a large town. A variety of excellent beaches are available 40 minutes to an hour away in three directions! The north coast offers rugged cliffs and spectacular scenery as do the west coast peninsulars. Sandy beaches can be found in the south.
If you want the facilities of cities, Brest and Quimper are approximately an hour distant.
Ideal for walking,cycling and mountain biking, the area is a nature lover's paradise. There are bikes available for our guests. The river Ellez is a short stroll from the gîtes. Trails can be found close by in the Monts d'Arrée and the magical forest of Huelgoat. Being on a migration route, Finistère is a great place for birdwatching. The area is also home to a population of beavers.
There are many angling possibilities in close proximity to Ty Hir including salmon and trout fishing. The St Michel reservoir and river Aulne are both a short drive away and sea fishing is an easy possibility.
For those with an interest in architecture there are many parish closes in the area. There are a number of Petites cités de caractère in Finistère and many fascinating megalithic sites within an easy drive. For music fans one of the largest music events in Europe is held in nearby Carhaix-Plouguer. It is also an ideal base for house hunting. For golfers there are 2 golf courses close by.There are plenty of activities in the area to keep children entertained.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants in nearby Huelgoat and Carhaix-Plouguer where you can treat yourself to a Breton crêpe and some cider after your exertions, whether they be walking, cycling, fishing or sightseeing!
