Il Villino Rosso della Fattoria di Monti stands on top of a hill at the end of a tree-lined road. The newly restored red villa was used in the past as a stable and then as the farm manager’s house. Today it is called “Il Villino Rosso” or the Red House because of it’s very beautiful red plaster work. It is located in a big working farm with cows and few horses in a 300 years old olive grove, where to walk around. It has a beautiful position up on a hill with a gorgeous view of the surrounding hills, some topped with ancient villages:Volterra is the most impressive; it is a great location from which to explore the area and even for some longer day trips. A self-catering and beautiful villa, nicely appointed with all the conveniences, to feel very at home. The swimming pool is private for the guests and has the most amazing views and a black interior which creates a mirror-like appearance. 4 bedrooms that can either be made up as twin or double and 3 bathrooms; sleeps 9 .

Il Villino Rosso is located next to the Villa of Monti. This impressive renaissance Villa was built in the middle of the XVI century as a hunting stay for sportsmen and city politicians. Today the owners live there and will be glad to provide local information. The nearest village is Ghizzano (6 km),an ancient hamlet of 350 souls, there you can find a very good bakery, a general grocery, which has a stock of delicious local foods and a wide variety of all other everyday needs and a post office. Shops, banks, supermarkets and so on are available in Forcoli or Peccioli (12 km). The villa is located between four of the main art cities of Tuscany (Florence, which is only 45minutes by train, Pisa, Lucca, Siena). You are also near to historical small towns and villages like S.Gimignano, San Miniato and Volterra.

  • Each bedroom is furnished with beautiful art and antiques, has a shoe closet, a phone line with normal internet access, direct dial and intercom ,a ceiling fan which due to the elevation (about 180,000m or 590,551 ft above sea level) and thick walls of the villa are sufficient to keep you cool in all but the most appalling heat waves and has screens on the windows. The master bedroom (n°1) is the largest room and has also a pull out sofa which can be used as a third bed. Sheets are in pure Egyptian cotton.

Notes: The large and beautiful eat-in kitchen do is very well equipped with dish washer, oven, microwave, toaster, mixer, American coffee machine etc. This is a kitchen for serious cooks and toast makers alike and opens into an outdoor 'pergola' (Venice covered patio) with 10 chairs allowing for al fresco dining and where in the summer time you can BBQ (a gas barbecue) and eat lunch or dinner overlooking a romantic Tuscan landscape. Few step ahead the pergola there is the pool. Next to the kitchen there is the laundry, with the washing machine, the tumble dryer and the iron equipment. -Our guests can also use the 5 mountain bikes available -The property produces its own vegetables during the spring and summer, the produce is available to guests -Daily maid service: 10 Euro each Hour -Dinner (lunch) ready: we will bring you the hot dinner (lunch)when you prefer (even on the day of your arrival) -If you like to learn some Tuscan recipes we can organize cooking lessons for you.

The estate: Fattoria di Monti is a farm of 300 hectares located on the southern hills of Pisa in the Volterra area. The owners raise cattle and horses, and grow cereal and hay. The surrounding landscape is gently rolling hills carpeted with verdant fields between wooded areas where the livestock grazes wild and in winter time hunters with their hunting dogs go shooting pheasants and grey partridge. On the ridges cypress lines delineate the borders of the property Many old olive trees are cultivated in the traditional way and the owners pay particular attention to produce the best possible quality 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil. On the top of a hill there is a landing strip as the owner likes to fly .If you have the courage to fly with him it is a splendid way to admire the beauty and variety of the region. Guests with their own private planes are also welcome.

Extra virgin olive oil and Hunting: -Extra virgin olive oil is produced locally in our farm and on your request we will be glad to organize olive oil asting with the different variety (monocultivar) we produce. During the Fall at harvest we organize the olive oil week or day: lectures where we take you from olive picking in the morning, to the processing stage in the afternoon (so that at dinner you will be able to taste and use the olive oil obtained from the olives you have picked in the morning…. ) to the kitchen for a cooking class. -We have a hunting reserve in the winter time... and in the spring and summer time there is a clay pigeon shooting range which operates on Saturdays and Sundays.

Just as all other have indicated before us in this book, our stay at villa Casa Rossa only deserves superlatives. Long after the details of what we did during our 2 weeks sojourn fades from memory we will always recall the warmth, charm and generous spirit of the people of Ghizzano and Villa Monti. Vicky you are a phenomenal Tuscan “ambassador”. Your passion and zest for the Tuscan way of life and all your blessing in this historically glorious region makes it come alive…I’ll always remember the wonderful birthday dinner that you and my husband conspired on. It was exquisite

Relaxing Villa in Tuscany

Our family (four adults, two children, aged 10 and 11) thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day stay at Villino Rosso. The internal accommodation is excellent, with all the comforts you would expect. The external features are great too, with a super pool in the most amazing surroundings. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful. We would recommend this villa to a family or families wanting a relaxing holiday, away from it all. A car is a necessity, as the villa is located several miles from the nearest town, and a drive of at least 20-30 minutes is needed to get to restaurants and supermarkets.

Perfection in Tuscany

This beautiful property surpassed all our expectations. The peaceful location was just as described with wonderful views & the house itself was spacious, elegant & spotlessly clean. The furnishings & kitchen equipment were of the highest quality & the 3 bathrooms were modern & stylish. The pool, in a sheltered garden setting, was immaculately maintained. The owners were outstandingly generous & helpful without being at all intrusive. Vicky made us some delicious meals & kindly showed us round their historic home, with its ancient private chapel, olive press & secret passage. The olive oil she had produced was a special treat.
Being centrally situated in Tuscany, Villino Rosso makes an ideal base for visiting the famous historic cities. Even with children aged 7 & 10 we easily managed trips to Florence, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa & Lucca. The nearest village is nearly 4 miles away, the road being partly unpaved, but the bakery & grocery there are excellent & we did not find the distance a problem. A car, however, is definitely essential.
The area is a joy for birdlovers with a colony of nesting bee-eaters.
We highly recommend this property & fully intend to return.
