Ideal position for relaxation &touring the area. Relax on the spacious patio soaking up the surroundings or walk amongst the eucalyptus, pine & cork oak forests. After a drive to one of the many historical towns, return to help yourselves to in season organic fruit &vegetables for your meal or get the English owner to make one for you, then sit back with a glass of wine & watch the star filled skies!The house is very clean & comfortable with all the essentials for a happy holiday. You can help with animal feeding time if you want to its better than any T.V!! The owners are on hand to help should the need arise to make your holiday a perfect one, but with pure mountain air & breathtaking views this should not be necessary.

There are plenty of attractive towns to visit Amarante set on the banks of the River Tamega with its historic Roman bridge, golf ,shops & water park for the energetic. Regua, the heart of the Port wine region, on the banks of the River Douro with daily river boat trips. Lamego,a pretty town with churches , a cathedral & castle, it is also the home of Raposiera, sparkling wine, that can be tasted when visiting the caves. The nearest sand beach is of course in Porto where the many Port wine houses are to visit. Local made beaches are within easy reach the nearest being 10 mins away in the village of Mesao Frio ,a swimming pool is there too & a walk around by day or night is worth while. Natural parks are around the city of Vila Real, along with many shops and plenty of things to do including the house of Mateus Rose to see. The largest outdoor market in Portugal can be visited on a Thursday in the town of Barcelos ,near to here is the city of Guimares worthy of a visit also.

Notes: We are a working farm and vineyard, everyone is welcome to participate or not as they choose with the everyday workings on the farm. .The house is far enough away from the animals if you don't wish to do so. Meals can be prepared on request using as much as possible our own produce. We live within the same building but in separate, self-contained accommodation. If anyone is interested in getting to know more about animal husbandry, growing vegetables, caring for vines and wine making, we will be delighted to explain some of what we have learnt over the last 25 years.

Golf: Amarante has an 18 hole course with a bar and restaurant. Golf buggies and clubs are available for hire. A round takes between 4 to 5 hours ?!! The approximate cost at the moment is 41euros during the week,50 euros at the weekend.

October´s Autumn glow!: Come and see the Douros changing colours on the sloping vineyards around Pinhao and the surrounding area,the start of autumn is a beauiful time with warm sunny days and cooler nights,driving in the car is a pleasure as too is the boat trip up the Douro river or a journey on the steam train to Tua.

There is a LAZ-Y-SPA for cooling down on those hot days and the swinging hammock for relaxing on as the evening cools down.

Other Activities: Enjoy the relaxing LAZ-Y-SPA on a separate patio area when the day is hot and in the evening relax in the swinging chair.

Wonderful stay at Quinta de Tapada

We spent 2 weeks at Quinta de Tapada from 21st June - 5th July 2009, and it wasn't long enough! Our two little boys (aged 3 and 5) had such a wonderful time with the animals, and the owners were exceptionally kind to them. They allowed them to participate in feeding time, and answered all their questions with patience and humour. We were also able to enjoy the delicious fruit, veg and eggs produced on the farm, as well as their great homemade wine.

There were many interesting places to visit within an hour's drive (and less), as well as some good walks from the farm, so there was no chance of anyone getting bored! The Douro valley is absolutely beautiful and unspoilt so is a perfect location for nature lovers.

A stay at Quinta de Tapada comes highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, pleasant surroundings, delightful hosts. Countryside was very interesting, plenty of places to go within an easy day's drive.
The accommodation was clean and tidy, everything one could need was provided.

Perfect stay at Quinta da Tapada

Our stay at Quinta da Tapada was a perfect getaway for our family – a couple with four children aged 5 to 9 – during the week week of 16-23 August 2008. It was a very relaxing time, away from the city, without TV, without electronic games, without stress.
First of all, the property was very clean and it had all we needed for a great stay. The owners were very nice and helpful to us, at the same time allowing us complete privacy. We also enjoyed all very good, tasty produce from the farm.
As it is a working organic farm, the children had the possibility to close contact with the animals, some of them for the very first time. They really enjoyed very much this unique experience.
We did beautiful and relaxing walks to the nearby woods, mountains, brooks and pretty villages.
We didn't use the car during the stay at Quinta da Tapada. But the location of this property allows for easy trips to the amazing Douro Valley as well as to the interesting northern cities, such as Amarante or Porto (Oporto).
I recommend this property for everybody, but especially nature lovers and anyone who wants to relax.
