Great Location!:
As well as being a bright and airy apartment, making it a very pleasant holiday base, Argentiére is also an ideal holiday location, no matter what your interests. In winter, there is of course, skiing and snowboarding on the doorstep. The Grand Montets ski area has some of the best terrain in the world on offer, whilst at the foot of the lifts you'll find the Panda Club, ideal for children's lessons. Nearby, at Le Tour there's easier runs for beginners and cruising, whilst other areas in the valley such as La Flégère and Le Brévant offer a variety of runs. For the ultimate off piste experience, hire a guide and ski the Vallée Blanche from the Aiguille Du Midi. Whilst its only a 4 minute walk to the Grand Montets lift, the other areas are easily accessed either by train or shuttle bus, or a short drive if you have your own car.
Other Activities:
However, Argentiére is not only about the skiing. There's everything from family walks through to rock climbing and paragliding. One of our favourites with the children is to walk down the valley on the shaded trails to Chamonix and after an ice cream, catch the train home again. Alternatively, try the luge in Chamonix or head to the open air swimming pool in the hot summer months. Trips to the mountain railway at Montenvers, the cable car to the impressive Aiguille du Midi, or the Tramway du Mont Blanc are all available within the immediate area. For trips further afield, head over the pass to Switzerland, through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Italy and the Aosta valley, or even down to Annecy with its beautiful old told and the lake. So much to see and do...
Ski:
The Grand Montets offers some of the best off piste terrain anywhere. With a max altitude of 3300m there's always going to be the best chance of snow and with a vertical drop of some 2000m back to Argentiére, this is a truly vast ski area. Children can take advantage of the Panda Club, again conveniently located at the foot of the Grand Montets lifts. For some easier 'cruising' Le Tour/Domain de Balme is just 5 minutes up the valley. With recent additions, the area now has much improved links with Vallorcine. A short distance further down the valley, you'll find La Flegere and Le Brevent, 2 more classic ski areas in the Chamonix Valley. Les Houches, with its wotrld cup course, is just a little further still on the far side of Chamonix town. And for the ultimate off piste experience, hire a guide and try your hand at the Mer de Glace, descending from the Aiguille du Midi down to Montenvers, or Chamonix. All in all, the Chamonix valley offers a fantastic range of skiing opportunities.
