In the steps of the Revolution
-----As you walk around the local area, you may see a game of pétanque at the Place de la Nation. Take a look at the imposing bronze statue of 1899 « Le triomphe de la République ». In 1660, Place de la Nation was called Place du Trône to commemorate the entry into Paris of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse of Austria, his new wife. Then, it became Place du Trône Renversé at the time of the Revolution. It became Place de la Nation on July 14, 1880, at the introduction of the first national festival. It’s one of the greatest Places in Paris built as a symbol of Nation or Republic, like Place de la Bastille which is only about 30mn on foot from it, or Place de la République, only about 40mn on foot. Have a good walk following in the steps of the Revolution !
Unusual stroll
-----Here’s a suggestion for an unusual stroll, in a peaceful cemetery ! Close to the apartment, at the end of the street, this picturesque Pere Lachaise Cemetery is a 44ha of criss-crossed treelined paths, with flowering shrubs and stone staircases. Père de La Chaise, (Louis XIV’s confessor), lived here before this area became the first secular cemetery in Paris, dating back to 1804. There are numerous sculptures and recumbent statues from the past two centuries of France's (and other countries) most famous artists, politicians, scientists, etc, eg. Apollinaire, Molière, Balzac, Chopin, Sarah Bernhardt, Modigliani, Champollion, Piaf, Wilde … and the well known Mur des Fusillés de la Commune (1871), called ' Mur des Fédérés ', with these heads and busts standing out in the light of the setting sun, a poignant, striking reminder of what happened long ago. Indeed, they are all worth seeing ! It's like visiting a huge open air museum!
Have fun the Parisian way !
-----Within easy reach of the apartment, you have either the chic or cheap shopping at the Printemps Nation Store or in the rue d’Avron. You also have a real choice of attractions, sports and activities for any age, eg. swimming (open air in summer), cycle hire or horse riding. *) Go into the famous Bois de Vincennes with its Zoo, its Tropical Aquarium, its Parc Floral de Paris for children’ s activities,(nature centre, theatre), or row a small boat on the lake. *) Run in Buttes-Chaumont, the best known park with its grotto, lake, waterfall & suspension bridge, …. *) You can spend some memorable moments in the Cité des Sciences, going from one interactive exhibition to the next, and with a 3D film, it would be a great way to round off your visit. *) Or go by train from RER Nation straight to Disneyland to have fun in the Park & studio. *) And why not, have a break from culture, on Sunday afternoons, by joining the special circuit for Rollerblades. Have fun the Parisian way !
Other Activities Monuments, Museums, Sightseeing bus/cruise, Concerts, Shows, Cabarets, Theatres, Art galleries, Antiques, Luxury shops, specialist & flea market.

Paris holiday with my three children
Uplawmoor, Scotland
Review Submitted: July 16, 2008, Date of stay: July, 2008
We found the flat to be excellent and it was ideal for the four of us. It is a good size, well equipped and in a quiet location. It is close to local shops and the underground network. It is very easy to use the flat a a base for all the Parisian tourist attractions as well as being close to the RER train route for that "Dad when are we going to EuroDisney" trip. Highly recommended.
David, Scotland.
Owner's response:
I'm pleased to know that you have spent good time in Paris, in our flat and that all of you had fun at EuroDisneyland. So, Next time ! E.F.
