There are 2 sandy beaches in the immediate vicinity of Kalkan. Kaputas being the first is only 6km drive away East & found at the bottom of a ravine down approx. 100 steps but with the most beautiful turquoise sea. Patara is the second sandy beach travelling 19kms west from Kalkan towards Fethiye. It is in a National Park with an abundance of interesting ruins, and was voted one of the world’s best beaches by The Times readers. With 22kms of pure white sand, which stretches as far as the eye can see. The beach is home to a protected species of turtle. Historically it is known as the birthplace of St. Nicholas (Father Christmas) Saklikent Canyon is a narrow gorge about 300m high & 18kms. long and is accessed by a suspended wooden catwalk. Crossing the ice-cold water of the Xanthos River you can begin the journey uphill into the gorge. There are a wealth of restaurants serving freshly cooked trout to choose from for lunch. Canoeing, white-water rafting & Scuba diving is available.
