Photos and Description of this Lot holiday farmhouse Surrounded by delightful gardens with private pool & stunning views

Le Marronnier, our 16th-century stone farmhouse, faces south to the Célé valley. This spacious house sleeps six people -with privacy assured. The visitors' book confirms the enjoyment of previous holiday rental guests who have stayed at Le Marronnier over the years. The thing that draws you to Le Marronnier is the chestnut tree in front of the farmhouse - it bends away from the farmhouse, so sheltering it from the weather. The view over the surrounding countryside from the front of the house is simply stunning. The pool and sun terrace are just a few steps away from the front door through a little gate in a dry-stone wall in the delightful gardens. The house accommodates six people in three lovely bedrooms, comfortable living area with a log fire making this a delightful french holiday rental. The grounds are spacious with plenty of room for outdoor games, or for simply sitting and observing the butterflies on the lavender in peace and quiet. Private yet not isolated - ideal!

The village of Espedaillac sits high on a limestone plateau. Its location offers an ideal centre to visit important historic towns such as Cahors, and the Knights Templar post of Figeac. The pilgrimage town of Rocamadour and the pretty artisan village of St Cirq Lapopie both perched precariously on escarpments are unmissable as is a visit to wonderful cave paintings at Peche Merle. Local villages offer bustling markets or as an alternative, local shops are only 15 minutes away. The variety of restaurants is endless, from the rustic auberge in 3 minutes walk from the house, to the impressive chateau at Gramat. There is much to satisfy a wide range of interests from walking, cycling, climbing, fishing, riding and canoeing, to the possibility of a private flying lesson or a round of golf. The area is noted for its fine lamb, fed on the aromatic fields of the causse, and for duck in all its variety. The famous rocamadour goats cheese completes the meal with a glass of red Cahors wine.

Notes: While we specify non smokers, we don't mind smoking in the grounds provided that guests are sensitive to the disposal of smoking products!. We have had wheelchair users stay at the house, but they would need help to access the downstairs bedroom from the garden door and also help into and out of the shower. Overall, the house is equipped to a very high standard of comfort. All linen and towels are provided, as are most necessities for a lovely holiday - from all things needed in the kitchen to cook and serve a delicious meal - to a range of games - both indoor and out, books and maps and information. The pool has a constant depth of 1.5 metres, accessed by pool steps and is safety fenced. Comfort is a top priority here. The visitors book is a tribute to holidays enjoyed at Le Marronnier and in particular to the people who return. Guests are welcomed to the house by our English representatives who can help with any requests and live only 5 minutes away in the village.

Further details for this holiday farmhouse rental in Lot, France

Further Details for Le Marronnier: This is the perfect place for a relaxing and interesting holiday for adults and yet equally absorbing for children, who will enjoy the pool and the grounds as well as the numerous other visits to farms, water parks and zoo which are on offer in the area. It is an exciting region for off road cyclists as the National Parc de Causse du Quercy is criss crossed by a myriad of green lanes. It is a walkers paradise at every time of the year. The village holds fetes at Easter, Bastille day and in the late Autumn, all of which are enjoyable for their feeling of the real rural France. It is accessible by road, via the main motorway South the A20. Flights to Rodez and Limoges from London Stansted and potentially the new airport at Brive Le Gaillard make getting to the house quick and easy. All airports have hire car facilities.

Other Activities: Flying lessons, climbing

The only problem with staying at this place, was having to leave. The house really is fantastic, it's fitted out and maintained to a standard that I wish I could keep up at home. I am one of the worlds fussiest people when it comes to bathrooms, but these were even good enough for me. The lady from the village, who looks after the property, could not have been friendlier and more helpful.

So what were the highlights? Just simple things really, eating outside under the Chestnut tree, sitting at the beautiful Acacia wood table, made us want to sit there all afternoon. The beauty of this was that there was no reason not to.The pool is a real life saver, it was hot when we were there ( depite a generaly lousy summer ), and a cooling soak in a pool, considerably larger than the the handkerchief size puddles one often gets at holiday properties, was fantastic. I could carry on about small market towns and shaded country lanes, but the best thing you can do is book the place and see for yourself.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the trouble to feed back your very nice comments.
We do love Le Marronnier and are glad that our attention to detail is noticed. We always try to provide what we would expect to find in a holiday home and take pleasure from planning improvements from year to year.

Le Marronier

LE MARRONIER. Holiday Rentals Reference: 87486

My wife and I have been renting Le Marronier for the last five or six years. Before that we used to rent another cottage in Espedaillac, indeed we watched with interest as the old property which is now Le Marronier was being refurbished. It has been refurbished to a very high standard and has been maintained like that ever since. Both of the bathrooms have no bath but good showers and are well appointed. On the ground floor the bedroom and shower room could form a separate unit if required, as it has an external door as well as an internal one. It is ideal if there are two couples. The kitchen has every facility including a fridge/freezer and a dishwasher and the lounge/dining area has ample comfortable seating and a large dining table. Eating alfresco can be done either poolside or under the large horse chestnut tree from which the property gets its name.
The lounge also has a TV/DVD and a HIFI ..The TV is tuned to either French stations or English Satellite( a limited version of SKY) The pool is a dream, secluded but sunny, and with lovely distant views over the surrounding countryside. It is secluded but sunny.

There are plenty of brochures at the property and a file with lots of information about what to do in the area. If you are keen on walking there are many walks round the immediate countryside on what are the wide sheep tracks. There are also lots of longer walks around the area with some good books available with details. These can be obtained from the newsagents in Gramat where they also sell lots of foreign news papers. It is recommended, however, to buy a map of the area which has footpaths on it.

The village is isolated, which for those wanting peace and quiet is one of its charms, and has no shop or bakery but it does boast an excellent auberge. There is a good little mini-market and bakery at Livernon about 5 km away and there are excellent supermarkets at Gramat and Figeac.

The whole of the surrounding area is in what is known as France's "Black Triangle", so called because there is virtually no light pollution, so the night sky is magnificent.
