Roustika, a traditional village with Byzantine monuments and picturesque taverns, is in an area of exceptional natural landscapes. The European path E4 crosses the village, with tracks that lend themselves to walking and mountaineering. There are other worth-visiting areas within a 20-km range: the gorge of Kotsifos, the Preveli delta, with its palm trees, the water sources of Argyroupolis and Kournas, the only lake in Crete.
Wonderful beaches unfold in the north, the long sandy beaches of Episkopi (12 km), of Georgioupolis (15 km), of Petres (17 km) and of the city of Rethymno (21 km). Southwards (18,5 km), stretch the beaches of Plakias, Triopetras and of the Preveli delta (25 km). Roustika is also in the vicinity of many villages of a particular architectural and historical interest (Venetian villages of Mountros, Aghios Konstantinos, etc). Rethymno with its Venetian fortress, its market and its rich cultural life, is connected daily to Roustika by the KTEL bus services (25').
