Golf course information:
The spectacular golf course was designed and opened by Seve Ballesteros in 1991. It is now fully matured and has held the French Masters tournament for the last few years in October. In 2007, for the first time this was televised in France. Regarded as one of the top 10 courses in France it is not for the faint hearted, but the variety of tees make it a fun challenge for players of moderate ability and better. Well maintained, it has a good practice ground, putting green and modern Provencal clubhouse. There is a good, well stocked bar with snacks and light meals available all day, also an excellent restaurant with views across the lake and golf course from the terrace, all open to non-members.
Village facilities:
The pedestrian village of Domaine de Pontroyal is just a 3 minute stroll from Villa Rose. There are shops, bars and restaurants in the squares overlooking the boating lake, golf course and hills of Provence. There are numerous sport facilities which may incur a charge, especially in July & August. These include a large heated swimming pool, a wave pool, water slide, floodlit tennis and basketball, archery, outdoor theatre, childrens clubs, boating, archery, horse riding and more! There is a Thursday morning summer market in La Place de la Mairie and numerous art and other exhibitions in the hall under the bell tower and the reception area of La Maison de Pontroyal.
Local attractions:
We list some favourite restaurants and tourist attractions in our guide in the villa - too many to mention here. However there are markets in nearby towns and villages every morning, Aix-en-Provence , Avignon and Marseille are all about 35 mins drive away. The Mediterranean coast a little further and the wildlife of the Camargue within one hour. The Luberon mountains are close by, with many villages and towns made famous in 'A year in Provence'. The local southern Rhone wines can be found in Gigondas, Vaqueras, Beaumes de Venise and Chateauneuf du Pape. Roman amphitheatres are still used today for concerts, bullfights and operas in Nimes & Arles 2000 years after they were built!
