A great location for a family weekend

ZoJo Aberdeen
Review Submitted: November 17, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009
Mary & her housekeeper June made us very welcome. All three generations loved the location and 'house'. The grand piano was put to good use! Mary recommended the Railway Bistro which served some great food for kids & adults alike. We'd definitely go there again - recommend the fish dishes.
Great location for cycling, running, walking and catching the train for a day visit to Edinburgh (station is 15-20mins walk away). Also can recommend the walk out to Crammond Island but you need to get into the car or cycle to Crammond first.
The only downside which wasn't made clear on the website was the lack of parking. Luckily we only had two cars and managed to park on the high street but it could be a problem if you have several cars.
But this didn't really impact the weekend and the in-laws are already planning our next family reunion and may even bring a boat next time....

Amazing Break with Friends

Review Submitted: October 1, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We stayed in the Kirk for a weekend as a friends get together before I get married later this year, making it the idea excuse to meet up with old friends. From the pictures on the website we were all looking forwards to it, with some of us even travelling as far as Bristol for 2 nights here!

When we arrived we were blown away, The Kirk is far more beautiful than the pictures let on. We plan to make a flickr book out of ours for all of the party!

I would highly recommend this to any-one wishing to stay in the Edinburgh area!

We hope to return soon!

Rachel

Hidden gem makes an unique holiday getaway

Review Submitted: June 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
We stayed at the Kirk with our 2 grown children for 3 weeks during July 2008. My love of cemetaries, and wanting to experience the culture of another country made this the perfect spot for us.

The Kirk is well maintained, with a gorgeous great room with beautiful stained glass windows. The kitchen is well equipped, and the bedrooms are a reasonable size.

Having our coffee (with shortbread!) either out in the cemetary or on a bench by the river in the morning was a lovely way to start the day. There are plenty of walking paths through the woods or along the water, and it's nice to sit out at local restaurant's bar and watch all the sail boats whiz by.

We were pleasantly surprised to find several excellent restaurants within walking distance. Easy access to grocery stories as well (as we didn't have a car). The train station is a pleasant 12-minute walk thru the woods, with trains that will take you to Edinburgh or towns on the other side of the river.

We felt we had the best of both worlds - close to a big city in a residence with all the modern conveniences, while staying in a private historic building in a peaceful town.

We loved our time at the Kirk and would highly recommend it without reservation. Ok, you need reservations, but you know what I mean....

Great place, I wouldn't hesitate to rent it again

Malkind Glasgow, Scotland
Review Submitted: May 20, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
You'll love the Auld Vennel Kirk, in South Queensferry, the venue for my 50th, like we all did. The perfect setting for a weekend of celebrations for my 50th and for our party of 12. A converted 17th century church, with original stained glass windows, and all mod cons. The adjoining walled cemetery only added to the charm.

We looked at many properties but the Kirk stood out. It exceeded all our expectations, and looking back, we all agreed we had made the right choice.

It is easy to get to, just off the motorway system, near to Edinburgh airport, and Dalmeny train station. We had no problem parking.

I was welcomed by the owner who showed me round and couldn't be more helpful.

Go down the steps of the Vennel and you are on the main street of South Queensferry.

You are right in the centre of the old town, so everything you need is on your doorstep, all within walking distance; shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarket, the sea, the sights, the bridges, the harbour, the marina, boat trips etc.

Everyone was so friendly, there is plenty to see and do.

It all contributed to a great weekend, and a memorable 50th. I can't recommend the Auld Vennel Kirk more highly.

Great place, I wouldn't hesitate to rent it again

Thanks.

Fantastic property, exceeded expectations!

Review Submitted: May 6, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We were a party of 12 with ages ranging from 10-75 and everyone was enthralled by The Kirk. The property was beautiful, charming and ideally situated in South Queensferry which was in itself a picturesque base from which to explore the area.

The Kirk was spacious, beautifully furnished yet homely and the mezzanine was a huge hit with the children. (Whilst we were in Edinburgh they were asking when we were leaving to go back to the house!). The graveyard next to the Kirk was lovely to walk around and my in laws were able to locate the grave of a relative from the turn of the last century.

The Kirk is only a 10-15 minute walk from the train station so a car is not essential if you are planning to use this method of transport. I would recommend this as the trains were always on time and children travelled free when an adult purchased a return ticket.

If you like going out for a drink then you won't be disappointed as there are many places to choose from although there are a few where you have to be over 21. If you have children then The Hawes Inn was good value for money and only about a ten minute walk away. There are numerous take aways, for when you return after long days out and about.

I can highly recommend The Kirk for people of all ages and we are looking forward to staying again, hopefully in the not too distant future
