The Isle of Anglesy (Ynys Mon in Welsh) is situated off the north-west coast of Wales near the very attractive Snowdonia mountain range. It is separated from the mainland by the Menai Strait, which is spanned by two scenic bridges, the Menai Bridge and the Britannia Bridge. Anglesey is known locally as Mon Mam Cymru the Mother of Wales, a reference to the historical role of the island as the bread-basket of Wales. It is steeped in a rich archaeological and historical heritage. It is unique in its diversity of widlife habitats from the great sea cliffs, estuaries, lagoons and dunes on the coast to the lakes, wetlands, heaths and richly mosaiced farmland inshore. Cemaes Bay is the most northerly picturesque village in Wales and its growth has been shaped by the natural resources available to it. Cemaes Bay is an area of Outstanding Beauty, some of which is owned by the National Trust. The village includes a natural, sheltered harbour that looks north to the Irish Sea.
