| Notes: | A BRIEF HISTORY OF SARLAT & OUR COTTAGE: The Maison Sarlat is very near to the centre of Sarlat, only a 5 minute walk away from the main square which has many buildings dating from the Middle Ages (1340-1453) & the Renaissance Period (1341-1780). The town really starting developing in the 9th century around the Abbey which had been in existence for so long that it's origins are no longer known. By the 13th century Sarlat had a population of 5000 people living within its walls & the surrounding area. The Maison Sarlat is just outside the town walls, by a few hundred meters & would have been the home to a rich 'peasant', not someone grand enough to live within the walls, a 'Bourgeoisie'. |
