The English owners have renovated these two holiday rental properties in this delightful region of France. We are situated on a secluded almost 2 acre, south facing, landscaped garden, with a huge salt water pool. We are on the edge of Payrac, a large village offering shops and restaurants within walking distance. Or you can chose to eat at home, with three or four course meals with wine from 20 euros each person. We are sandwiched between the Dordogne and the Lot rivers, and within reach of Must-Sees of both regions. Rocamadour and Cahors are within easy driving distance.As is Domme, with it's magnificent views across the Dordogne valley ,on the way to the famous medieval town of Sarlat.Lascaux is also within reach. Or you can meander through the vineyards and markets of the region. Walkers and cyclists are in heaven. It is possible to pass through fabulous woods and the famous limestone plateaux of the region.It's beautiful here.

It is an old stone farmhouse with exposed beams, renovated to a high standard in 2007,to comfortably accommodate 6 people, taking into account facilities for wheelchair users, or someone with poor mobility. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom and wet room. Specialist equipment may be available for hire from the local pharmacist. Please talk to us. Also on the ground floor there is a lounge diner with a traditional ingle-nook fireplace with wood burner. There are 2 large sofas and a dining table and chairs. Also there is satellite TV, DVD and an audio system. Kitchen with dishwasher, washer dryer, fridge freezer, cooker, plus all the kitchen equipment we could think of. Upstairs there is a double and a twin room (which has a 3ft and a 4ft bed). Both are en suite. The views are across the garden and pool to countryside. Two bicycles are available for you to use.

Payrac is ideally situated for visiting the chateaux of the Dordogne and the Lot, with fabulous examples of history and prehistory. An artist's and photographer's paradise. Village festivities throughout the summer offer a meal with the locals. The benefits of the rivers include canoeing, fishing, birdwatching and, of course picnicking. The towns of Domme, Sarlat, Rocamadour, Souillac, Gourdon, Padirac all offer something different. A little further away, Brive, Figeac, Bergerac and Cahors are all worth a visit. For the youngsters water parks, and even climbing through trees on rope ladders are available. Cyclists are respected here, not terrified! Peace and relaxation, good food, remarkable wine, gentle walks through the woods and countryside, a night sky worth lying on a blanket in the garden for...and days sitting under a tree reading or just staring into space. Two restaurants within walking distance, or we will cook for you. Just ask, dietary preferences are respected.

Notes: Payrac boasts a mini-supermarket, tourist office, newsagent, boulangerie, pharmacy, garages, 2 hotels, 3 restaurants and a bar as well as a doctor, nurses and a gendarmerie. All within walking distance. It is a very old village with interesting houses, it's own old chateau and even a wash house.

Our prime concern is your holiday: You are important to us, and will be pleased to give any assistance. A welcome pack is provided, so that you can self-cater or we can cook for you on arrival, or for special occasions, as you wish.Meals are available ,with 24 hours notice.Three courses with wine starts at 20 euros a person, delivered to your cottage. As Waitrose do not deliver here, if you give us a list we can even do your first shop for you, if it would help. The boulangerie is in the village...350 metres, as is the small supermarket, so food is never a problem. They even open on Sunday mornings! There is a pharmaciy and a doctor in the village, and a hospital in Gourdon....just in case. As this is our home, we feel that we are able to offer help and advice if required, but otherwise remain discreet. There is a Golf course at Souillac, where visitors are welcomed. There is also a championship golf course at Limoges, 75minutes north on the A20.

Do you speak any French?: English is spoken by the staff in all of the hotels and restaurants around here that we know, and also in most of the shops. So don't worry if you have no French but even a few words spoken with a smile can enhance your pleasure. The people in our region welcome visitors, they like to share the beauty that is their birthright.

Other Activities: Theatres, music festivals, Michelin starred restaurants, canooing, wine tasting, visiting interesting sites, and markets.

I stayed at this property during March and wanted to comment on how wonderful I time I had. As an avid cyclist I found the location to be fantastic. Quiet, good roads with a variety of routes from this well connected location. Good off road run or walking routes also made my time there enjoyable. To make it even better, my hosts were fantastic. Providing support and advice when requested, and allowing me to have the space that I went there for. The facilities offered all that I needed, and more. Who expects a dishwasher in a rural cottage? Beautifully rennovated the location offered a real sense of getting away from it all. Thank you to Jayne and Barry. I will be visiting again.

Plum Tree Cottage

To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary we gathered our children together for a week at the end of August before they went back to school and university. We had a lovely time as the cottage is very well kept, and can easily accommodate 6 adults. The bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely and I particularly enjoyed the view into the distance from the bathroom window. If you want to see the local area, a car is essential with Sarlat, Gourdon, Rocamadour all within an easy drive. We opted for a very lazy break and spent a lot of time around the pool and in the garden. Four of us came from the NW of the UK and we enjoyed some much needed sunshine after a fairly wet summer; the other 2 came from London and they were glad of the peace and quiet. Jayne are Barry are very kind, welcoming hosts who are always willing to help if required but also respect your privacy. Two of our party traveled by train from London and were collected from the station at Gourdon by our hosts. Thank-you very much - you made everything easy for us. This property suited us as our girls aged 16, 19, 21 (and guest 24) were happy enough with their own company for a week in the sun. If your teenagers expect more excitement or night life from their holiday, then this might not be the best place for you. Ideal for a restful holiday in the country.

Lovely cottage, lovely hosts and lovely place. The cottage had everything you needed and was spotlessly clean. Barry and Jayne were wonderful, Jayne is an excellent cook the food was delicious. The gardens and pool are well cared for and they take great pride in everything. It is very central for everything, Barry is very helpful with the area. I would recommend this property to everyone it is fantastic.

Lovely, lovely, lovely

We were originally planning to bring our bikes to check out some of the great (if challenging) local rides but, due to a late injury, ended up taking the relaxing break option instead. Things definitely turn out for the best sometimes - we ended up having a marvellously relaxing break! We pottered around some of the local markets, wandered around the garden eating fresh cherries off the tree, swum the occasional length in the pool and went for a nice saunder around the nearby lanes. By the end of the week, we were so laid back, we were horizontal (literally - on the sunbeds!). We did take the drive to Rocamadour and I can tell you, it's much easier than cycling it!!

Like Mary Poppins - Perfect in every way.

We have just returned from our week holiday in Fig Tree Cottage, the first holiday as new parents and it was truly wonderful.
Jayne and Barry were the perfect hosts, a fantastic meal prepared for us on arrival (the pork was out of this world) and always on hand for any question or information without intruding in any way.
They had gone the extra mile providing a swing in the garden for our daughter and a collection of toys. A* on the customer service.
The cottage, tastefully decorated had all the mod cons you could require, dishwasher, washing machine (very handy with small baby) great shower, and even Sky tv!
Great grounds, perfectly landscaped with lots of mature fruit trees and lovely pool.
Well placed for the local village, quick stroll to the bakers, local shop and restaurant, and for sight seeing in the region. A car is a must for Rocamadaour, Sarlat, Souillac and Cahors.
No faults at all, just wish we had a longer stay!
