Sola de pedre mole (secluded house of soft stones) nestles at the base of a mountain in the magnificent Vallespir valley. Set in the midst of 2 hectares of private gardens it is the perfect retreat for those seeking peace & tranquility. A mountain stream runs through the grounds & you will hear nothing but the sounds of nature during your stay here. The Catalan countryside has it`s own natural beauty, evident from the majestic Pyrenees which reach to Mediterranean beaches. Many artists have been seduced by the brightness & colours of this area & reminders of Picasso & Dali, to mention two are everywhere. The local food & wine is exceptional and the daily markets a source of homegrown fruit & vegetables. The nearby historical town of Ceret produces France`s finest cherries & the cotes du Roussillon wines are superb. Perpignan is a vibrant city with an evident Spanish & Oriental flavour and picturesque medieval villages, abbeys & castles are scattered throughout the area.

The historical village of Arles sur tech is a 5min drive away. It has an ancient abbey and interesting little streets in the centre. It has a supermarket, boulangerie, pharmacies etc. The spa town of Amelie-les-bains is a 20min drive-a bustling town with a local produce market. Ceret is a beautiful, leafy and historical town with good restaurants, shops and an excellent weekly market. The beautiful beaches of Argeles-sur-mer are a 40 min drive and the picturesque harbour town of Bagnols (renowned for the wines and liqueur of it`s name) is less than one hours drive away. Perpignan is a lively cultural centre with many international events all year round. The Spanish border is 40mins away and the Costa Brava coastline with beautiful character towns such as Cadaques and Figueras (birth place of Salvador Dali). The historical city of Girona, with it`s airport and access to Europe, is within a 90 mins drive. There is also easy access to Barcelona which is approx. 200kms from the border.

This house is really as it is advertised on the website, infact better! It has everything going for it, the inside is clean, and spacious. the garden is absolutely amazing, it was so lovely to walk around, and take photos, it seems to go on forever. We spoke to the people who look after the house, who were very welcoming and friendly-and told us of there love for the area too. It is well worth the drive to see some beautiful scenery. We did some walking which was wonderful, and again, catching the beautiful scenery.
The local villlage Arles-sur-tech was extrememly friendly. Everwhere we ate had good food, and again, very welcoming-even cooking for us earlier. This holiday was perfect for us in every way. We feel very blessed to have been on this holiday and would love to return.

The house exceeded expectations, it is a beautifully converted simple stone house nestling in its own valley with a massive, very evocative garden landscape. Lovely pool with generous terraces and totally secluded. We were very surprised to find a wonderful, bright, fully equipped modern clean kitchen as the photo on the website had made it look rather dingy.The laundry was terrific too. The cosy living area was lovely when it rained and the kids were delighted to find UK TV (to watch the Olympics). It is quite high up in the mountains so rather a long way to get anywhere and Mount Canigou did throw out the clouds some afternoons which restricted the swimming/sunbathing occasionally. It was very spacious for 5 of us, 10 may be a squash though and I did not fancy sleeping in the garden chalet (not for wimps). We couldn't make the fancy gas bbq to work so got ourselves a cheap one. All in all we would not hesitate to recommend it and are dying to go back.
