Yarmouth, a ferry port and yachting centre, is located on the more peaceful western side of the Island at the mouth of the Yar estuary. The historic little town is guarded by Yarmouth Castle (English Heritage), built by Henry VIII in 1547 The harbour attracts international yachts and cruisers, and visitors who enjoy the lively range of shops, festivals and art exhibitions. The picturesque narrow streets and town square are lined by flower decked shops and pubs; restaurants range from Michelin star quality through family-friendly pubs to cafes with outside tables for celebrating fine weather late into the evening, many meals having an emphasis on local produce and freshly caught fish. Walks and rides start here, leading along the Yar estuary (excellent bird watching), to Downs, Tennyson Trail and beaches. Fishing, off road cycling and watersports may be arranged locally. Helpful Tourist Information base on the quay. Ferries (35 mins.) regularly from Lymington in the New Forest.

Further details for this holiday bungalow rental in Yarmouth, United Kingdom

'Green Accommodation Provider of 2007' award: 'Orchard Lee' was built to respect its privileged location to be environmentally friendly.

It uses a geothermal heat pump to provide hot water and underfloor heating. Wood for the wood burner is from our own woodland. There is a high level of insulation, ensuring the house is cool in summer, warm in winter.

The house has its own dirty water treatment plant. Low energy lighting is used , recycled paper products and environmentally friendly cleaning products. Waste is recycled where possible. There is good access to public transport and secure bike storage.

Wildlife: A great location for those keen to spot wildlife. Set in the peaceful West Wight, from the veranda it is possible to see barn owls and little owls hunting. Raptors such as kestrels, sparrow hawks and buzzards frequent the fields and may be seen daily from the house. Herons and egrets fly past; green and spotted woodpeckers breed in the trees on the land .....as do lapwings, pheasants, partridge and a myriad of common small birds.

There is a good population of hares in the fields - and the occasional red squirrel.

Great place for a family gathering

Review Submitted: January 23, 2012 Date of Stay: December 2011
Where else could we have found such a comfortable well-equipped house for 3 generations to meet up, with plenty of space inside and out.
We enjoyed all the walks from the house, and there was good entertainment indoors for evenings.
A warm and helpful welcome was a bonus.

Orchard Lee

Review Submitted: February 16, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this very comfortable house with 'green credentials'. It is an attractive building, with a wooden decked terrace around the whole property. It sits in a very large area of meadow, with beautiful views across to the Downs in the distance. Lots of space for children and active adults to take advantage of. The house is very comfortable and well fitted out, and extremely light and airy. It would be an ideal location for a holiday/break at any time of the year.

The house is located on a large arable farm in the West Wight, ideally placed for the Lymington/Yarmouth ferry, and at an easy distance from the Cowes ferries. We took our cars and spent many a happy hour exploring the wonderful West Wight, which is truly beautiful. The Island has a very good bus service, and I believe that a lot of visitors use this method of transport, also an ideal spot for bike lovers and of course for walkers.

In essence a very attractive, modern house with all the comforts you require for a wonderful holiday, with the added benefit that it can be split in two for two separate families/couples. A great location away from the noise of a town where you can enjoy the countryside and seaside and all it has to offer

Lovely, relaxing holiday

Review Submitted: April 8, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
I have stayed at Orchard Lee on two occassions and each time I have been very impressed both with the location of the property (within easy driving distance of Yarmouth and numerous Isle of Wight attractions) and also with the standard of the accommodation itself. Rooms are comfy and the whole place has a contemporary yet homely style. I never fail to feel relaxed after a few nights here - it is, quite possibly, responsible for some of the best nights sleep I have ever had in my life! The Isle of Wight itself has a lovely calming quality and the tranquil, countryside setting of Orchard Lee with it's wonderful views out across the farm land just adds to the "escape from it all" appeal - I'll certainly be back for another getaway!

Winter activity venue

Review Submitted: December 9, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2008
Many thanks for the hire of Orchard Lee weekend gone. Your venue is absolutely top class and we are all 100% impressed. What a base to have in the cold winter, beats B & B's or static caravans hands down. Even though everything looked new there was plenty of character, great setting & I'm sure your springer was friendly!

It was very peaceful & relaxing & an ideal base for our activities over the weekend.

Thanks, Chris.

'Pippin' Orchard Lee

Review Submitted: October 21, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2007
We stayed in Pippin the eastern half of Orchard Lee last year. It was a late Spring/early summer short break. It is a delightful property, with a wonderful open aspect looking over the rolling West Wight countryside up to the Downs. The house is very comfortable and light with everything you require for a few days away or a longer break. It is an ideal house for families with children, as there is an enormous open meadow type garden for them to play in. It would also be ideal for anyone who is infirm as there are no steps, and there is a terrace all around the house. Additionally the whole house Pippin and Russet can be rented as one, allowing a large family group to stay. It is a very quiet and peaceful location for those wanting to get away from the noiser locations on the island. Overall, a great house, ideal location and very helpful owners on site.
