The medieval riverside village of Montclus is set in one of France's most enchanting valleys, and like so many of the villages in the area it is surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields. The unspoilt nature of village and the timeless serenity of the valley ensure relaxation. Shade cast by the high walls in summer provides welcome respite from the heat. Shopping is simple in the markets (Tuesday in Montclus in high season, Wednesday in the adjacent village of Goudargues and Friday nearby in Barjac). Restaurants are too numerous to mention, particularly in season (more than 20 within 15 minutes drive).
Historically the region has been occupied by the Greeks, the Romans, the Popes, and finally fought over by French and English (well perhaps Norman French would be more accurate) so the monumental record is prolific.
Those who have not yet seen the Pont du Gard, the Palais des Papes, the Pont d'Avignon and so on have much to do...
