Recently featured in Homes & Gardens magazine, this independent apartment refurbished to a very high standard overlooks the river Orbieu in the heart of Lagrasse, this special village classified as 'One of the most beautiful villages of France'. The house is only seconds away from all the amenities & restaurants in the village yet provides a calm & relaxing venue for your holiday. The riverside top terrace is 90 m2 & provides the ideal space to spend your days or evenings. Overlooking the iconic Medieval stone bridge & the hills across the river, it is half covered to provide shade for those wishing to keep out of the sun & has a characterful old stone sink, a BBQ/Plancha & a cold water shower for those of you who might wish for a speedy cooling off on those hot summer days! There are loungers & a dining table seating eight. It is a lovely spot to watch the sun setting over the hills opposite or the spectacular firework display to celebrate Bastille day.

  • Rates may be flexible depending upon the time of your visit, the length of your stay and the number in your party. Please contact us for further information.
  • A booking deposit of 30% of the rental fee is required on confirmation of booking. Balance of rental to be paid not later than 1 month prior to your arrival date. A refundable damages deposit is required payable not later than one week prior to your arrival date. The refund will be made within two weeks of your departure subject to a satisfactory property inspection. All rental payments may be made in Euros. All linens are included in your rental although we do not provide swimming towels. We are very happy to arrange a meal, either a restaurant reservation, or a home cooked meal for 25€ per person including wine.

  • Each of the 3 bedrooms have their own ensuite bath or shower room. They are comfortably and uniquely furnished with antique beds and old french armoirs or, as in the case of the 3rd room, the beds have been specially made. The largest bedroom has a beautiful old Spanish bed and a Moroccan styled mezzanine which can be made into an additional single bed if required. The bathroom has a deep claw foot bath and shower. The Second bedroom, or 'The French Room' has two Louis XV headboards which can either be made up as an enormous double bed or separated into 2 singles. Both these bedrooms overlook the river and the hills opposite and are extremely peaceful at night with gentle sound of the river trickling by. During the spring months these two bedrooms also benefit from the sounds of the local frogs and their mating calls!. Our 3rd bedroom is on an upper floor and overlooks the internal courtyard.

Notes: Our luxury apartment is accessed through the internal courtyard, once a cobbled lane dividing two houses. It is on the 1st floor up an attractive old spiral staircase. It has a wonderful view over the river Orbieu from where one can wind down to the gentle sounds of flowing river water, birdsong or mating frogs (!) Children are welcome, although we feel it more suitable for more mature 12 year upwards. This said, do feel free to call and discuss this with us. The living space has a lovely terrace off it and gives the apartment its bright open feel. The enormous top terrace also overlooks the river and is accessed by continuing up the spiral stairs.

This gite lives up to its billing in every sense. Nicole and Michael have given careful consideration to every aspect of its design and in doing so have created a beautiful environment that combines, character, charm and practicality. The roof terrace and views are magnificent and Lagrasse itself is a real delight. We will be back!

A Desperate last minute booking engineered because of a delightful but regretfully negative response from Nicole lead us to a door in a narrow street in the beautiful village of Lagrasse.
A Friendly face above us and then we entered a serene quiet oasis of a shared hall and living area through to a lovely courtyard and up some stairs to our appartment.A large warm and elegant living room with 3 large and stylish bedrooms all with their own facilities and an excellent kitchen with table and small courtyard off it.
The icing on the cake however was the short further climb to a very roomy terrace appointed with cooking and washing facilities in an elegant and unobtrusive way.The views from here across a quaint cobblestone bridge across the river to the surrounding hills and then the other way to the outline of the famous Lagrasse Abbey were truly unforgettable .A late breakfast,a long lunch or just to lounge around with a book after walking or driving around priceless value.
We plan to return to this Gite Experience and to the hosts Nicole and Michael ( who have so cleverly crafted this gem ) as soon as we can .The only cloud on our horizon will be if this place is discovered for the memorable experience it is and we cant get back

Lagrasse Village Central to All

Nicole and Michael's place was wonderful in all ways. The home itself is stunning, just as they say. The pictures don't do it justice. Each room has its own bathroom. We were a party of six and very comfortable there. Lots of nooks and small space for privacy or reading. Well equipped kitchen. Views of the river. All is elegant, but in a very comfortable fashion. The location is also great. LaGrasse itself is a beautiful village, and is a great base to a larger region full of interest. Carcasonne is about 1.5 hours away, Albi was wonderfuul, the Pyrennes and related sites are also reasonably close. As hosts, Nicole and Michael are more than gracious - our family had a memorable stay and is eager to return.

Fantastic medieval apartment with designer decor!

We were a party of six and stayed at House La France for one week in April 2008. The property was superb, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We have stayed at many properties in France over the past 30 years and can honestly say this was one of the best.
Situation was perfect, with access directly to the river, and it was in one of the most beautiful villages in France.
We had a lovely welcome from the owners, Michael and Nicole, who were most helpful advising us of places to visit, best restaurants etc. etc., in fact nothing was too much trouble.
If you would like to stay in a medieval designer pad, with all mod cons, including en-suites to all the bedrooms, this is the place for you, highly recommended.

Our glorious week in Lagrasse!

We are a family of four Aussies and were looking for a perfect week away in the French countryside... Well did we get lucky. Firstly, it is located in the historical Cathar area of Aude, which is located 30 minutes south of the medieval city of Carcassonne, in the Languedoc Roussillon region of France.
Lagrasse is isolated enough to enjoy the unique countryside of this area, yet is positioned near all necessary facilities, motorways, beaches and outstanding local historical features.

House la France gite is outstanding - location, situation by the Orbieu River and medieval bridge, abbey and wonderful walks.
Inside the gite is everything you could possibly want or need as the owners Nicole and Michael have thought of everything. From the welcome bottle of wine, local cheese, iPod dock, internet access and helpful advice.
All three bedrooms have ensuite facilities and House la France's outside areas are very pleasant, especially on those warm spring evenings for which France is well known.
Being Aussies we especially enjoyed the rooftop terrace, BBQ and dining facilities.

My family and I highly recommend House la France to all who require the very best at a most reasonable rate.

We'll be back!
