Beautiful scenery but dated and unclean

This property is situated in a beautiful, scenic part of Austria and there is acess to hiking, walking and heritage sites. The hotel itself is very dated and one needs to get past the ever present odor of cigarette smoke in all public spaces in the property. The kitchen, while well equipped, was not clean upon arrival, with food debris in the sink, smelly, used kitchen towels, and an extremely funky odor. The bed linens had not been put on the bed and there were no clean kitchen linens provided. Whoever had rented this space prior to our arrival had not closed the fridge door properly and there was, and I am not exagerating, 4 inces of ice on the fridge freezer which meant we could not open the freezer compartment and the fridge ran constantly. As we were self-catering and needed the fridge we spent two hours defrosting the freezer. As well we used the vacuum in the unit to vacuum the carpets and the bathroom which were not clean. We're not sure what the cleaning fee pays for! The pictures on the website do not give an accurate description of this property and we would not recommend it to friends. Had we not been required to pay the rental fees prior to arriving we would not have stayed at this property.
Owner's Response: We were so disappointed to read this review. It's the first negative comment we have received in the five years we have been letting our apartment. Our guests have been unanimous in their praise of it and we have prided ourselves in providing a clean and comfortable place to stay.
On this occasion I have been in contact with management of the hotel, who take responsibililty for cleaning the apartment, and providing clean linen and towels. There seems to have been a total breakdown in communication on this occasion. The voucher system which normally operates very well and gives the management details of our next guests, as well as a reminder that the room needs to be made ready, did not work this time. I have been reassured that such a situation will not occur again.
