Servoz is the gateway to the Chamonix Valley. It remains one of the few unspoilt rural villages in the Valley. Its climate is milder than Chamonix itself, and yet Servoz has all the advantages the high mountains off - AND we bask in sunshine! As well as the superb Chamonix Valley skiing (see ski page), Servoz is ideally placed for exploring several good ski areas within easy reach due to the good road system: 35 mins to Courmayeur (which is now included in the Mont Blanc Unlimited ski pass), 20 mins to St. Gervais/Megeve, 40 mins to Grand Massif/Flaine, 35 mins to Les Contamines. If you want to take a guide, we can recommend one of the several Mountain Guides who live in the village. Free train and bus connect the Chamonix Valley ski areas. The legendary town of Chamonix, which offers restaurants, bars, shopping, nightlife, English cinema, sports centre, skating and a swimming pool, is 15 mins drive away. Les Houches has an excellent indoor climbing wall.
Local activities swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, ski, golf, mountain biking, mountaineering, paragliding

Further details for the apartment in France
The Mont Blanc mountain range is a World Heritage site....... .. Its dramatic scenery, with Mont Blanc itself, the famous Chamonix Needles and the huge glaciers descending into the Chamonix Valley, is unparalleled. The skiing is so varied that everyone can have a wonderful time. For experts it must be hard to beat the mind-blowing high altitude off-piste glacier skiing. For intermediates and beginners there is a huge choice, all with views to die for of the Mont Blanc range. We can advise on the best place to ski according to snow and weather conditions and arrange for personally known Ski Instructors or Mountain Guides to take you skiing. Heli-skiing can be arranged. In addition to downhill skiing you can go snowboarding (2 dedicated snow parks), cross country skiing, ski touring (Chamonix is the start of the famous 6-day Haute Route to Zermatt), ski mountaineering, winter climbing, ice climbing, paraski, telemarking, heliskiing.
For non skiers, the walking or snowshoeing in the area surrounding Servoz, through the forests and little hamlets, is so peaceful and beautiful that you would have no idea that there is a vast ski industry just around the corner. You can drink in the clear air and spectacular scenery of the Mont Blanc range. The Montenvers cog railway takes you to the foot of the Vallee Blanche in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif. The Mont Blanc 'Express' , with its panoramic roof takes you through the mountains from Servoz to Martigny in Switzerland, and the famous Gianadda Foundation which always has first class temporary exhibitions as well as its permanent art collections. You could visit spas at St. Gervais, Lavey-les-Bains in Switzerland, or Pre St. Didier in Italy, all within easy driving distance.
Summer
The Chamonix Valley is stunningly beautiful – the awe-inspiring views of the eternal snows above make a strong contrast with the summer warmth of the valleys below. Walk in alpine meadows full of flowers with the sound of cowbells in the distance, through forests past streams and waterfalls. There is a huge range of things to do for all ages including teenagers and children, from climbing, mountaineering on the glaciers and adventure sports, to tennis, golf and swimming in the valley. For younger children there are adventure parks and pony clubs. In addition there are good markets in local towns, museums and exhibitions, and of course a huge choice of restaurants and cafes in which to relax.
Other Activities Paraski, snow-shoeing, ice-climbing, cross country skiing, ski-touring, canoeing, rafting
Skiing Information:
The Chamonix skiing is made up of several distinct areas. It is helpful to have a car wherever you are staying in the valley although there is free public transport. Distance to nearest lift at les Houches: 8 minutes by car. Height of Chamonix: 1000m. Height of Argentiere: 1250m. Height of top lift: 3842m. Vertical drop Grands Montets to Argentiere: 2000m. Length of ski season: 21 weeks. Runs in Chamonix Valley, including Les Houches and Courmayeur (included in Mont Blanc Unlimited ski pass) Green: 10. Blue: 37. Red: 45. Black: 19. Off piste: great variations, from gentle tree skiing at les Houches to the huge open glaciated expanses of the Grands Montets at Argentiere. The famous Vallee Blanche should be skied with a Mountain Guide. Apres-ski for those with energy left - 2 restaurants in Servoz, plenty to choose from in les Houches (8 mins) and in Chamonix (15 mins) there is a large variety of restaurants, clubs and bars to suit all tastes.
