Spacious self catering villa with in beautiful medieval village near Barga and Lucca in Northern Tuscany. Outstanding views from the apartment, 500 metres above sea level. Child friendly with flexible accommodation. Inside and outside dining facilities and large sun terrace. Orthopaedic hand crafted wrought iron sofa bed in large lounge with room divider gives extra bed space if required, master bedroom with king size bed and child's bed, twin bedded room with posture mattresses. Well equipped kitchen with basic food stuffs supplied. Large shower room. Washing machine. There are restaurants and bars close by - in the next villages between 1 and 3km from the house. The apartment is situated in a National Park and walking and mountain bike trails are abundant. The villa is in the heart of the Garfagnana Trekking zone. The beach resorts (Viareggio) are just over an hour away by car. Pisa 1.5 hours, Florence 2.5 hours, Lucca 40mins approx by car.

Casa Castagna is in the centre of the small village of Brucciano in the Garfagnana region, Northern Tuscany. This is just north of Lucca, very close to Barga and day trips to Pisa, Lucca and Florence are ideal. This is an area of outstanding beauty, surrounded by the Apaun Alps and the Serchio Valley. The beach resorts of Viareggio, marble towns of Massa and Carrara are only just over one hour drive. Excellent train links from Barga-Gallicano station (10km approx.)

Refundable £100 breakages and excess cleaning deposit taken and paid on return after inspection. This has been sadly introduced due to the lack of respect of our property by guests.

Further Facilities: The apartment is very spacious with many books, games, toys and Cd's. Ample range of towels supplied including bath sheets and beach towels. Two hairdryers, an iron and ironing board are also supplied. Both indoor and outdoor dining tables and chairs are supplied seating 6/7 at each table. Outside lighting/ power socket for the terrace and flood lit garden lighting for security/visibility. Logs in the colder months are supplied. A cot is available on request. High chair and baby bath is included. Child friendly.

Other Activities: Summer festivals most weekends - local village themed festivals.

Location - small hilltop hamlet. great views, v peaceful. Garfagnana is lovely area for nature lovers, walkers etc - very hilly, wooded, and flowers etc. Car essential at this property - shops /facilities down in valley (15 min drive). Local roads are narrow and twisting but fine if drive cautiously. Reasonably quick roads once down in valley bottom but most of our trips were to various places within the national park. Furthest we ventured outside the park was to Lucca - think took about an hour. We thought the attractions of the coast and florence were too far to drive - but this will depend on how much you want to see them of course.
Property accessed by short steepish path up from village square/ car park and is effectively a first floor apartment. Reasonably spacious - would accomodate 5 people comfortably. Has private sun terrace.
Main issue when we were there was lack of heating available in the property. This was more pronounced because although we went in early June the weather was cool with sunshine and showers (we had rain everyday at some time usually as heavy showers). Accepting that this may have been unseasonable, if the fire/ central heating isn't available for use theres a need for some other heating source - fan heater etc.
We booked relatively late but all arrangements sorted quickly and efficiently.
Overall we enjoyed.

Our log fire/heating system is being looked at now and a more user friendly system is being considered and actioned by 22nd July 2008.

What a find! Spacious both inside and out. The terrace was our outside livingroom where we ate, read, sun bathed, played and laughed in the sun. The kitchen is really well equipped and basics left for us on arrival at no extra cost. We didn't have to pack any towels either as there were plenty to go round us all. The washing machine, iron and board also well used. Thank you. See you next year if you will have us. The Frasers xxx.

What a lovely place to chill out and relax. I can't remember a holiday where we both felt we could have been the only two people in the world, it was so quiet. We did venture to Florence and Lucca, but most days we sat on the terrace and read our books. It was truly wonderful - Margaret & Gordon Falkirk, Scotland. The house was clean and comfortable, traditionally kept with character, but we did not expect the outstanding views from the rooms. Wow! The area is outstanding and the quality of the food in local restaurands was excellent (and very inexpensive). We are hooked. We will be back. Syliva, Martin & Nicole, East Lothian, Scotland. Thank you for sharing your knowlegde and home with us. What a delightful place. The walks, medieval villages, markets, food and festivals were to many to do in 2 weeks. Can we come back next year? The Liddle Family, Borders, Scotland.
