Photos and Description of this Uzes holiday apartment 2 Bedrooms, sleeps 4, air-conditioning

It is said that famous French painters loved the south of France for the quality of the light. Nowhere is this more apparent than in this sunny second-floor apartment in the historic centre of the bustling medieval market town of Uzes. Situated in a lovely 19th century building, the self-catering apartment provides a tranquil contrast and an ideal base for a holiday in the Gard. You will enjoy eating on the terrace which has glorious views over the terracotta roofs of the town to the Gorges du Gardon in the south. The apartment, which is also our second home, is tastefully furnished to a high standard providing every comfort. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality cookware, china and cutlery, and opens onto elegant dining in the salon. Air conditioning keeps you cool while you watch satellite TV, listen to music or play games and comfortable beds with good linen ensure a good night’s sleep.

Uzes, the first duchy of France, is a medieval honey-coloured town in the Gard, famous for its Saturday market (one of the largest in the south of France) and its many interesting shops and restaurants. The historic centre, the ‘sauvegard’, contains a myriad of fascinating narrow streets, pavement cafes, galleries, a medieval garden, the cathedral and the castle which is the residence of the current Duke. You can visit the castle and towers for a stunning view over the town and surrounding countryside which includes the Garrigues, the Cevennes and the Ardeche. The Uzes community is truly international, and yet retains the charm of a lively French market town.

Notes: The terrace is at the end of the living room and opens to the south and west. There are lovely views over the rooftops to the distant hills. There is an awning which you can wind in or out to give you shade on really hot days and plenty of room (4m x 4.5m) to eat outside using the table and chairs provided, and you can also relax on the sun loungers. The apartment is on the second floor of a nineteenth century stone town house, accessed by a wide staircase. It is unlikely to be suitable for young children because of the low level opening windows in certain areas. Long term renters would be welcome by special arrangement.

Great Town, Superb Location.

Review Submitted: August 26, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We have just returned from a wonderful week spent in Uzes. We were very pleased with the appartment which exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, comfortable and very well equiped. The central location meant that we were within minutes of the hustle and bustle of Uzes life, the street markets, the restaurants, cafes and shops but at the same time it provided a tranquil and peaceful retreat when we needed it. The terrace was the perfect place for relaxing and taking in the beautiful views over the roof tops at sunset. The air conditioning was a welcome relief and ensured that we were able to sleep soundly even when Uzes made the national TV news for being the hottest place in France (41.5 C ) during our stay. The change over went very smoothly. We would thoroughly recommend this appartment. It is shame that the changeover day is on a Saturday as the market is superb and we would have liked to have spent more time browsing. It will have to be two weeks next time!

Fantastic Location, Great Apartment

Just returned home from staying 1 week in this apartment and we had a fantastic time there. The apartment is about a 1 minute walk to the centre of Uzes and the Saturday Market is absolutely amazing. The apartment was great and well equipped with everything we needed including on arrival a bottle of rose, water, coffee, spices everything which was a relief after travelling for 14 hours before arriving to not have to worry about finding a supermarket that night. This is my third time to Uzes and the Gard area and i just love it more each time but this is my first time staying in Uzes and I can highly recommend this apartment. We are a family of 4 and it was perfect. Check in was very effecient as was our departure. On time, no problem at all. The owner was also very accomodating and extremely helpful. Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay in the appartment which is ideally situated for visiting Uzes, the Pont du Gard and Avignon region.
The appartment is beautifully decorated and furnished and the diving swallows and sunset from the terrace is not to be missed.

We shall return (hopefully).

Delightful indeed

Review Submitted: July 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Having stopped briefly in Uzes on other trips, we knew what a magical place it is and we wanted an apartment that would allow us relax and enjoy all that it has to offer first-hand. This apartment lived up to its description and photos, and exceeded our expectations. The apartment is flooded with light and fresh air from the many windows and french doors. From the terrace there are wonderful views over the rooftops to the countryside, and it had the feel of a hilltop eyrie with huge sunsets, swallows skimming over our heads in the evening, cats tiptoeing along tiles and chimneys. The furnishings are all of excellent quality – we could sit and read or watch the news in real comfort and we slept like logs in the very comfortable master bedroom. It was a pleasure to cook up all the wonderful food from markets and shops in a real kitchen, then enjoy it on the terrace! We also loved the location – secluded among quiet residential streets, but just steps from the main boulevards and historic centre of town. The owners have thoughtfully provided a good collection of maps and other useful information about the town and region. We were sorry to leave the apartment, and we would certainly recommend it.

Great location, very relaxing

This property has everything you could possibly need. It is clean, well-maintained and in a great location being only a minute's walk from the cafes and bustle (on market days) of the Place aux Herbes.
The thick stone walls of the apartment building ensured that our stay was very quiet and relaxing.
We would love to come back, Barbara and James
