A newly renovated villa which is quiet and relaxing . The rear bedroom has a single bed and a small double, the front bedroom has a double bed. There is space for a cot as well. A new kitchen blends in with the 18'' thick stone walls and original features such as a mosaic marble sink outside - great for prepping salads in the sunshine ready for the barbque. A vine-draped pergola shades the dining patio and a high stone wall makes 'Phoebe' a private little haven. There's a gated parking area which doubles as a secure play area. The beach is so close it's great to go for several dips a day - take a stroll in the morning, past the bakery (the smell of fresh bread is irresistible); grab a pastry, and as your route is straight down the historic main street between the end of our little lane and the castle, you can also collect a coffee from Niko's and paper at the Newsagent opposite and have breakfast on the beach with the clear waters of the Ionian Sea lapping at your toes.

Getting There

Charter flights from several UK airports to Kalamata on Sundays, May to October. Easyjet from Gatwick/ Luton/ Berlin to Athens has £50 seats if you book early. Swissair and Olympic are also worth checking. We can arrange a cab to meet you at the airport and drive straight to Methoni for 120euros. It's a spectacular journey through the Taigetos Mountains - which divide the territories of the ancient kings Agamemnon (Mycenae), Menelaos (Sparta) and Nestor (Pylos) - and the new motorway, lined with Oleander and Cypress trees makes for an easy and pretty drive of about 3 and a half hrs. If you decide to hire a car there are good deals with independent Greek companies at Athens airport. As you cross the Corinth Canal to the Peleponnese, a stop to admire this feat of c.19th engineering is a must. Agamemnon's palace at Ancient Myceae is well worth the short detour.
