Dominio Vale do Mondego, situated in the Serra da Estrela, the largest nature park of Portugal, is a working organic/bio dynamic farm with olive orchards and sheep. Spread over the large terraced terrain, there are 6 Quinta’s (authentic Portuguese farms) offering to guests 3 self catering farmhouses, 2 Cabanas with B&B, the ‘Lagar Lounge’ (dining room/library/billiard/piano/WIFI), terraces, swim basin, panorama terrace, and a rural campsite. One can walk for hours on our own terrain of 33,3 ha, with historic terraces, pastures, wood, olive groves, fruit orchards,fig trees and a herb & vegetable garden. A dirt road leads to the secluded Domain, a beautiful and very private location in the green valley along the river Mondego. The region is famous for its nature walks and historic villages. The highest city of Portugal, Guarda is at a distance of 12 km. Join us for delicious family dinners with fresh organic products. Free use of our open air art atelier. Horse riding on our 2 horses.

Cabana for Bed & Breakfast: We converted 2 small traditional outbuildings of the Quinta da Portela, into 2 individual rooms, with their own access, ‘pedra vista’ walls, suitable for 1 - 2 persons each. Each Cabana has its coffe & tea making facility and a fridge. They share the bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin (access outdoors through the terrace). From the rooms there is a direct access to the panorama-sun terrace with a wonderful view of 360º of the Mondego valley.On the terrace are chairs and sunbeds and a small children' pool. The Quinta da Portela consists of a traditional country house with in its former oil press building the lounge. We serve a few times a week dinner, in summer on the terrace under the fig tree. The open air Art Atelier, where guests may paint, sculpt, mosaic or engage in any other creative activity, is on the edge of the terrace. The water basin, 20 x 10 x 2 m, with water from the river, is great for swimming, as well as the river Mondego.

One can walk for hours on our own terrain of 33,3 hectares, with historic terraces, large pastures, wood, olive groves, orchards with apple, pear, cherry and fig trees and a large herb and vegetable garden. A dirt road leads to the secluded Domain, a beautiful and very private location in the green valley along the river Mondego. The region is famous for its nature walks and historic villages. Faia is a small medieval village where rural life has been unchanged for centuries. The highest city of Portugal, Guarda is at a distance of 12 km. It has an historic center with a large cathedral, authentic townhouses and an abundance of cafes and restaurants. Within 30 minutes are the castletowns of Sabugal and Belmonte.

Notes: The Cabanas are situated right near the country house of Quinta da Portela. Guests may make use of the Lagar Lounge, the place where formerly the oilpress stood. This stylishly converted hangar is now an attractive lounge, with travelers information,WIFI internet, tv, telephone, piano and terrace. In colder days we use this room as guests diningroom. Right next to the Cabanas is the Panorama terrace, with deck chairs. The swim basin (with fresh water from the river) is a short walk along the Caminho de cerejas (the cherry-path).

The collection of accommodations is at the end of a dirt track off a minor road and overlooks a tranquil valley. Both the cabana and the shared, adjacent shower room / WC were clean and comfortable. The owners made us very welcome and offered us a light bite on arrival. We chose to eat with them and other guests. We enjoyed varied conversation and an excellent evening meal, including home-grown, fresh fruit and vegetables.

The owners are passionate about organic farming and the setting reflects this in that it would suit travellers who appreciate rural living. There is, however, access to the internet and the lower farm house does have its own swimming pool.

absolutely unprofessional. wished I never went there. Got the strong impression we were not welcome. Communication prior to arrival extremely difficult. Internet presentation very different from reality
