Sitting on the banks of the River Dart with breathtaking views it offers a lovely outing with walks around extensive grounds, restaurant and shop. Work is underway restoring the house itself and will be open to the public soon. Nearby there is a passenger ferry across the Dart to the riverside village of Dittisham with its famous Ferry Boat Inn pub/restaurant. The ferry runs on demand all year and for the return journey a large bell summons the ferry - great fun for the children as is the crabbing galore off the small pier. 6 miles to the ancient town of Totnes with many interesting shops, tearooms and riverside restaurants. The market every Friday and Saturday is a must as is a trip to the grounds of nearby Dartington Hall and the Sharpham Wine Estate. Beautiful little cottage

Minty, London
Review Submitted: June 19, 2008, Date of stay: April, 2008

We stayed in Barnacle cottage for a week over easter and had a wonderful time. The cottage is small but beautiful and really well set up, very comfortable beds and a pub within walking distance! We were welcomed by the owner with some home made scones and clotted cream which was a lovely start and we had arranged with her to have an organic food delivery from Riverford farm. There was lots of information about the area and the owner gave us recommendations too. There was plenty to do with the kids, mackeral fishing, crabbing, beaches, horse riding and beautiful walks. It's also dog friendly and lots of pubs were too. I definitely recommend the peoperty.
