Mas des Costes - second visit.

Review Submitted: June 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
This is an outstanding property to stay in , in a beautiful and unspoilt area of France. There is everything you could possibly require provided for you and even some things that you wouldn't have thought of yourself.
The pool is large and well maintained and has all the safety features for children. We have visited twice now and it is a great base for exploring Nimes, Avignon and Arles as well as many other locations like the Pont du Gard.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Excdellent house, excellent location

Review Submitted: September 5, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
This is a spacious and comfortable house with a lovely swimming pool. We enjoyed staying there enormously. As vegetarian/vegans, we have to do a lot of our own cooking, which was fine, with the pleasure of eating outside on the patio every night. The pool was perfect and got a lot of use. One really must have a car, but there is a lot to do and see in the area. Even after three weeks, we were reluctant to leave and we thoroughly recommend the accommodation to anyone.

Spring 2011 in the Cevennes

Review Submitted: May 21, 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
This is a lovely house and we would not hesitate to recommend to others. The photos give an accurate view of all the rooms. The very large kitchen and family size fridge were fantastic (as was the rose wine and beer as part of the welcome pack). The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could want for cooking / self catering. The kitchen was so good that we can not recommend any restaurants as we didn't need to go out for dinner.

The outdoor area and garden were also very nice and private. Although in early May the pool was a little bit cool to make much use of.

The gite is well located for access to Nimes and Pont du Gard at approx one hour drive. We did quite a few walks in the Cevennes with a walk up Mont Aigouil which very challenging & rewarding, especially as there is a cafe and a most interesting meteorological station at the top. The mountain catches some tremendous weather and whilst the walk up was in sunshine about half way down we were caught in a tremendous rainstorm so make sure you take a rain jacket. To inspire others we have left our Cicerone guide behind which has loads of ideas for walks. Make sure you take enough water as the mountains can be quite dry. Another good trip would be the market day at St Jean du Gard.

The phone call to make sure everything was OK was a nice touch and we found all dealings with the owner most helpful. The instruction booklet was a great thing and during our travels and staying at gites throughout Europe over the last 9 months we have only had one other owner provide this thoughtful touch.

The internet connection was very fast and the TV had English language channels. The only negative could be that the downstairs bathroom is a little bit tired but on the positive the shower cubicle was very roomy and hot water plentiful.

We enjoyed out stay very much and would recommend to others.

Mas des Costes - 11 September to 25 September 2010

Review Submitted: October 28, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
Mas des Costes was perfect for our holiday. The house provided everything that we needed and we all agreed that it was even better than it looked in the online photos.
Our party consisted of a couple and two singles and the living and sleeping arrangements allowed for us to be together when we wanted whilst also allowing us all sufficient privacy when required.
The pool was lovely and very well maintained, however there was so much else to do locally (and further afield) that we didnt spend as much time in the pool as we had expected.
The grounds were charming and there was plenty of space for outdoor activities, including a pleasant shaded outdoor eating area.
The restaurant recommendation system maintained by the owners was extraordinarily helpful and certainly the best we have ever encountered.
The owners responded promptly to our enquiries and gave us very clear directions to reach the house. We encountered no problems during our stay but particularly appreciated to owner's call to make sure that all was OK.

"Does exactly what it says on the tin"

Review Submitted: October 25, 2010 Date of Stay: October 2010
The review title is our way of saying that the property was very much as described.
The owner was prompt, friendly and professional in all the stages of contact. All the important information was to hand at the property and there were back up telephone numbers if an unknown problem cropped up, which it did not. We actually arrived in the dark and were by then a bit weary, so were pleased to discover a welcoming and stylish house in a secluded and peaceful location.
The house was very well equipped and the kitchen had plenty of everything to make eating in very pleasurable. The garden was lovely. We especially liked the fact that there were a couple of bikes which were able to be used and cycling into the village to get bread and croissants was a great way of seeing the locality and building the appetite.
We had a lunchtime meal at Les Terraces du Gardon in Anduze, which was very good, a lunch in Florac at Cafe 21 which was basic, and an excellent lunch at La Ferme de Cornadel which was a very memorable restaurant, a place we would definitely recommend.
We drove up to the Tarn Gorges on a circular tour one day and came back from Florac via Mont Aigoual another day. My very brave wife had a swim in the pool one day, it probably is a little too cold in October but the pool and its setting looked fantastic and I'm sure in the warmer periods would be very welcome.
We felt very comfortable and regarded it as home for the time we were there, we relaxed and read a good deal. The TV and radio had very comprehensive instructions and worked without a hitch.
The house brochure was very informative and provided plenty of suggestions of places to visit and places for provisions etc. We enjoyed our stay greatly and will be recommending the property to our family and friends. The deposit was returned in a very prompt manner.
